It’s Official: “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince”

CNN has the full details. Apparently Rowling released the news on her website, though it took some digging to find.

According to the author, the title refers to neither Harry or Voldemort. Speculations? My guess is Hagred (the only half blood I can think of).

It’s been there for at least a couple days that I know of, but it’s so hard to find, and certainly wasn’t official… (Her site is a miasma of painful Flash animations and such, and until a couple hours ago, was apparently just speculation anyway.)

I wonder whether this means the book is well underway, or if it’s taken Jo this long just to come up with a title. :-)

If you find and click on the subtle text-only link at the top of the main page, it becomes quite readable. You lose the link to the area with the title, but the “News” section clearly says that this is the title that’s been in her head for a while, and that the “HBP” is not Harry or Voldemort. The main page says that her site is where she can post articles and news such as the completion of book six, but she says that that particular piece of news is still a long way off.

The CNN article quotes Rowling as saying “the title I have been using in my head for ages and ages,” and it also talks about plot elements in this book that were originally considered for the second book. I think it’s safe to say that she has gone beyond figuring out the title.

    Half mugle, half wizard?

Doesn’t have to be half human half fantastic (depending on how you view the
    magic user/mundane dichotomy of course).

Probably Something We haven’t Been Introduced To, Yet. JK’s Always Bringing In New Stuff.

        I bet it’s Hagrid. He’s a half blood (Human/Giant)

          Maybe it’s Malfoy.
How would a snob of his calibre react to learning that his mother wasn’t a witch, but was muggle royalty?

          • I suspect strongly it’s Malfoy …

I’d bet money on it. How much have we heard about Draco’s mother, and how else could elements of this tie into book two? Dobby the house elf takes care of the Malfoy household. Where’s Mum? :)

I’m not sure if Mum was mud-blood royalty, but I immediately thought of Draco as a prince — a spoiled prince, certainly, but a prince. The confrontation has been building from book to book. I am curious to see its resolution. I’d bet Draco has no idea how evil his father is, and we’ll see Draco and Harry becoming, if not friends, allies.

This will really piss off Dad, who will double his efforts towards Harry’s downfall … Stay tuned for the next installment. :)

Nope, it’s not Draco…his mom is part of Sirius Black’s family according to Order of the Pheonix. I believe she’s his sister but it may have been cousin, I can’t remember for sure.

    • Re: Malfoy Mum
Well i can tell you its not Malfoys mother :P due to the name “Prince” being in the title. Draco is pure blood so it can’t be him, dunno bout hagrid. Does anyone know if Dumbledore is pure blood? >.
