Recently, Mr. Doohan, most famous for immortalizing Montgomery “Scotty” Scott on the original Star Trek television show, announced that his next convention appearence will be his last. It has just recently been revealed that he’s been diagnosed with the brain disorder (he is also battling Parkinson’s and diabetes).
Our thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes to the D-Day veteran and his family.
Child
What’s really sad here is that, according to IMDB, he currently has a four year old daughter. It’s emotionally draining on adult children who understand what their parents are going through; I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like for a little girl.
Re: Child
Very sad. And to top it off it’s not like he’s not aware it’s happening to him. He can look at his four year old daughter and know what he’s going to loose with her. I’ve got a 2 year old little girl and I can’t imagine dealing with that.
especially knowing that a cure could be found, yet the current president of the United States is stopping research in certain directions for ‘religious’ reasons.
Am I really just a heartless bitch…..
or was anyone else thinking…..
“Come on Scotty, we need more power!”
“Aye…er..uhhh…who are ye anyway?”
(I’m soooo inappropriate today)
Re: Am I really just a heartless bitch…..
As long as we’re being heartless and evil, anyone remember what compound Scotty invented in Star Trek IV? Now, anyone remember what cookware has been linked to Alzheimer’s?
Re: Am I really just a heartless bitch…..
The aluminum connection is uncertain, however.
I am losing parents to Alzheimer’s, so of course this affects me.
And even if you’re being in appropriate, I’m glad to see Technogirl here again.
Re: Am I really just a heartless bitch…..
It’s a Federation cover-up! I KNEW all those years exposed to the warp coils couldn’t POSSIBLY be healthy! But would anyone listen?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Scotty, 2nd star to the right and keep on flying
I joined this board so I could post a message:
Was sad to hear about Scotty being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
He was one of my favorite cast members, a very likable person.
The first thought that came to my mind was the episode where the
crew was exposed to radiation and they all became old. The
original Star Trek crew are immortalized in film, video and DVD.
Generations to come will have a chance to know and appreciate
them as we do.
God bless and God Speed Scotty,
Barnabas
Farewell convention for Scotty
http://planetxpo.com/doohan/
The above link is for information about a convention
they are throwing for James Doohan. I’m going to try my
hardest to go. A lot of people from the show are going
to be there, and there will be a roast for James too.
Sounds like a fitting send off for Scotty, surrounded by
people who love him and appreciate all he’s done.
God this news makes me so very sad. James is one of
the finest people I have ever met in show business. He
always had a kind word for anything and everything
having to do with Star Trek. He tirelessly showed up for
everything and always did his best never to disappoint
a fan.
