  1. Regarding the 3rd spoiler on the bulleted list…
    About time!

When I first heard they were dealing with that this season, I was worried it would be the focus for the entire season, like the Xindi were for season 3.

I don’t know – wrapping up something that has been built up this long in two episodes? It’ll either be really good, or complete retcon crap – [sarcasm] but, hey, it’s Rick Berman and when has he ever let us down? [/sarcasm]

The point is that it gets it out of the way. I figure the way they wrap it up will be crap anyway, so it might as well only be 2 episodes of crap instead of an entire season of it.

I don’t know – with Manny Coto onboard now, they actually have someone on staff that understands how to use Time Travel effectively.

Also, once it got going, I think last season wasn’t as bad as it could have been, as I rather enjoyed the season long arc. Sure it had a number of throwaway episodes that should have been removed, but (excepting the last five minutes) that finale kicked serious behind. A number of smaller arcs would be okay (say, about 4 episodes each, with six total arcs in a season), but a season comprised of two parters? You do something like that and it means you don’t know how to edit your storylines, or you’re planning long term (i.e. DVD sales), or your show should run longer (I’m looking at you, Justice League!).

There’s also the fact that I don’t think they’ll be able to pull out quality scripts for that many two parters – we complained about single episode throwaway shows, so imagine how bad a two-parter throwaway would be….

Next time, on a very special Enterprise….

  2. What The Hell?
Berman says about the new movie, “…it would take place prior to any of the series, including [UPN’s Star Trek:] Enterprise.” What is it going to be about? Humans riding on spaceships with Vulcans? Borg action linked with the time-traveling of First Contact? Blech. This thing sounds worse and worse the more information I read about it.

It will be set in 1987 Earth. Everyone is trying to figure out what was up
      with
those weirdos in San Francisco last year who ran off with a couple of
      whales.

A world war is looming between the USA and the USSR because of
      suspicions in
America resulting from numerous reports of an invisible airplane that
can hover and some russian dude running around looking for nuclear
      submarines or something.

Then a bunch of Space Cadets (cast from the never-produced Star Trek:
Academy) steal a training cruiser for a joyride. An engine malfunction makes
them fly ’round the sun real fast to go back in time, where they rescue 1987
from itself, but also pick up “big hair” fashions and bring them to the 25th
century. Fortunately, their aging instructor Cmdr. W. Crusher is already
      bald.

Oh, and on the way back they use the tractor beams to save the kids in
“Space Camp” from burning up in reentry.

At least, that’s what happens if B&B write it.

Is this in the original ST continuity with the Eugenics Wars and WWIII or the shiny happy people continuity of Voyager and Enterprise? ;)

I expect option three, none of the above.

Yeah, the one in which the Ferengi buy Wal-Mart in 2005.

Maybe it won’t have any humans at all in it.
Suppose it was about a war between the Klingons and the Romulans – who would you root for?

I’d probably root for a movie with the DS9 cast.

As you know Sisko went to live with the profits, but he did say he would return.

No, the Ferengi went to live with the profits.
Sisko went to live with the prophets.

Presumably there was a substantial amount of time between Zephrams flight and the launch of the Enterprise. I’m sure there were many interesting adventures in many ships less grand then Enterprise.

I would love to see a series that tells some of those stories, without limiting itself to one single ship or cast. I want good stories set in the Trek universe, not necessarily 10 seasons of the same handfull of characters. Please, TPTB, branch out, create a series that focuses on telling good stories instead of developing the same characters. Use as many episodes as it takes to tell the story, think of it as series of mini-series. Take the most popular and spin them off as their own shows, or make another mini-series episode about those characters or events.

The Enterprise Xindi arc would have fit into this format nicely, and they wouldn’t have had to figure out what to do with the characters after the final episode unless they wanted to do a ‘what happened after happily ever after’ episode.
