This week has a few notable offerings. Remember, the
titles listed below are officially released this
Tuesday. This seems to be the week for 1980s
nostalgia.
The genre releases this week include:
- ALF
– Season One: The first of three seasons of this
1980s sitcom. - Beetlejuice:
Yes, this Tim Burton film has been released before,
but it’s being rereleased on Tuesday. - The
Boris Karloff Collection: I’m just assuming this
is genre based on his history. Amazon has a listing
for it, but it doesn’t mention the actual titles
included. It’s a Madacy release, so don’t expect any
attempt to clean up a dirty print. - Christopher
Lee Collection: About the same as the collection
listed above. - Cult
Classics Collection: I really wish Madacy had a
searchable catalogue so I could tell what was in
these. - Fright
Night Collection: More of the same. - Gremlins
2-pack: These previously released movies are now
available in a two-pack. - Highlander
– The series season five: The fifth season of
this show will be available on DVD this week. - The
Lost Boys – Two Disk Special Edition: You know,
I’ve never actually seen this movie. - Predator
– Widescreen Collector’s Edition: Back to the
1980s once more. - Village
of the Damned / Children of the Damned two pack:
These are the original adaptations, not the remake
with Kirstie Alley and Christopher Reeve. - Vincent
Price Collection: Is it so hard to actually tell
your retailers what you’re selling? - Yu-Gi-Oh:
The Complete First Season: I’m assuming this is
the North American edit.
The non-genre releases this week include:
- Kill
Bill Vol. 2: The second half of this film is out
this week. - Mystery
and Suspense Collection: Another Madacy
collection.
Other DVD news this week includes the inclusion of a
limited edition Punisher comic book to go along with
the DVD
release on September 7, and the Amazon.com
listing (without corresponding official Disney
announcement) of the next wave of Walt Disney
Treasures, including Mickey
Mouse In Black and White Vol. 2, The
Complete Pluto, and The
Mickey Mouse Club, which is expected to contain
the first five episodes from the series.
