Comments | Blaine: I know this is titled “The Complete Collection,” but Amazon reviews are saying it’s only a set of everything previously released on DVD, but not everything made. The description doesn’t say anything about that, but it *does* list a 1041 minute running time, which seems incredibly low for a TV series that lasted 208 episodes along with a movie. I never watched the series, but unless episodes were less than 5 minutes each, this isn’t complete. | ||||||||

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going with the Addams Family film collection.” Blaine says, “go with Steamboat Bill Jr. and/or Star Trek: Enterprise, depending on what you already own.”
I enjoyed Arrival. The pacing makes 2001 look like a Michael Bay movie, but it’ one of those good hard scifi movies.
“The pacing makes 2001 look like a Michael Bay movie”
Bwahahahaha!
(I can’t wait to see this, though now I’m expecting a lot of boredom.)
We reviewed it when it came out.
While it’s slow paced, I wouldn’t go that far. I appreciated the willingness to build its character and situation.
Again, just to make it clear, I am absolutely NOT saying that the slow-pace is a BAD thing.
I absolutely do not consider it boring.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with a slow pace. They just tend not to make movies like that any more.
One of my favourite movies is The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It’s 15 minutes before anyone even speaks in that thing. I’m absolutely not opposed to a thrill-ride movie, either, but I miss movies where they actually draw you in without car chases and constant explosions – and Arrival definitely does that.
October Sky is one of those undervalued films that kids should be exposed to. Might get some more of them interested in the space program, particularly rural kids.
Good movie, great memoir’ The author admits that the source material contains some fictionalizations, but it makes a great and inspiring story nevertheless.
For those curious, the book is “Rocket Boys” by Homer H. Hickam Jr. “October Sky” is an anagram of the book’s title.
