NASA announces existence of a system with multiple potentially-habitable planets

NASA has announced that a nearby star-system, TRAPPIST-1, contains seven rocky, earth-sized planets, three of which are in the star’s Goldilocks Zone.

Of course, we cannot know what we will find there, but it’s a great place to examine more closely.

So let’s all raise a Trappist Ale!

    • Depending on your definition, everything is within range of a generation ship,
but this strikes me as sorta-nearish-future plausibly reachable, yes.

      • Well, true. But every year a ship’s out there, the chances of catastrophic failure have to go up exponentially (repair parts, supplies, system failures, etc). 40 light years seems practically next door (astronomically speaking).
