This is getting its North American release this
weekend, after already making the rounds in the UK.
How does this hold up compared to other zombie
flicks?

Simultaneously funnier yet also quite scary
I saw it on the UK release a number of months ago (why did it take so long to get to the USA??) and I can only recommend it. It’s got some very funny parts, yet the zombie story develops in such a way that you also get the shimmering of fear from the whole thing. Comedy and horror are seldom blended, let alone this well.

This was actually quite well done. It reminded me a lot of the zombie/comedy mix of Jacksons DeadAlive/Braindead
I didn’t find either of these movies scary in the least but I did really enjoy the british comedy. Think of the zombies more as a back story to make jokes about.
I’d recommend it but don’t go expecting an ultra gory or scary zombie flick

By the time they get to the pub, it gets slightly scary. And definatly gory.
Eviscerations are gory.
28 Days Later part 2
It seems that this movie took the same path to the US that 28 Days Later did. It was out on DVD in the UK before it even came to US theaters. If it’s half as good as 28 Days Later is (which I quickly bought when it came out on DVD here in the US), I can’t wait to see Shaun of the Dead.
Not a horror fan, but I liked it.
Let me start this out: I hate horror flicks. I don’t like them at all. I hate that Sci-Fi and Horror are often lumped together.
Now, with that off my chest – I liked it. It was actually a movie (not just a collection of zombie jokes), which I wasn’t expecting. Brought up some issues (which I’m sure other movies have covered before), but had a good sense of humor. I think horror fans will get more out of it, since most people were laughing at a lot of things I wasn’t.
Nice touch – most of the “jump” moments were due to humans, not zombies. And lots of other small touches – Ed slips on something, he doesn’t really notice, but the audience realizes it’s a pool of blood.
Only down side – the ending seemed a bit rushed and forced. Obviously you’ve got to end it before the characters die, but they wrapped it up in about 20 seconds. I also disliked that Liz’s personality changed the way it did, especially considering part of the premise was Ed trying to change his life.
For horror fans, a strong recommendation. It’s not really the “Romantic Comedy” the tagline says, but it was much better than other movies I’ve seen lately, especially Underworld (which I also watched this weekend… is a movie considered bad if you giggle through the second half?)

I don’t like horror but I like zombie movies.
Mostly from playing Resident Evil I guess…
Though horror can mean many things, this is not the same kind of movie as a
slasher flick. There’s genre confusion here I guess.
