Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “my Pick of the Week is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm on Blu-Ray, should you have a Blu-Ray player of course. On the anime front, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is worth picking up.” Blaine says, “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is better than a lot of live action Batman. If you haven’t seen it, make a point to do so.”
The Billy Jack: The Complete Collection. I guess, sooner or later, this was going to happen.
If you don’t know the Billy Jack phenomenon:
–Born Losers is a low-budget exploitation flick, directed by/starring Tom Laughlin, that made good box office but was panned by critics. I suspect it holds up by the standards of low-budget exploitation flicks of its era, I haven’t seen it in a long, long time. A long time. … Since, oh, since before you were born, most likely, if you don’t know who “Bily Jack” is.
Billy Jack is the 70s cult film that takes itself too seriously, but is worth seeing. After a slow initial run, it became a hit.
The Trial of Billy Jack bombed (despite the success of its predecessor) and wasn’t shown much after its initial release. I’ve never seen it.
Billy Jack Goes to Washington wasn’t released theatrically at all, and only gradually found its way onto viewing platforms. Actor/Writer/Director Tom Laughlin was convinced the U.S. government was behind the film’s failure.
Laughlin tried to do another “Billy Jack” film in the 1980s. It was never completed. He died in 2013.
Did anyone watch King Arthur? And I do mean “anyone”… I know it’s bad, but is it “worth watching if you’re bored and it’s free” bad?
I did watch the 2017 Ghost In The Shell. Kinda wish I hadn’t. Then again I feel the same way about the original version.
I second Blaine’s comment on Mask of the Phantasm. I remember watching it with my little brother back in the 90’s and was impressed by just how good it was. Even back then, Animated DC was superior to Live-Action DC.
I’ll probably end up watching King Arthur because…well I’m a sucker for anything Arthurian.
I mean, I used to think that too, but the previous King Arthur movie… I mean… ugh…
