These releases will be available on Tuesday, October
19.
First, the genre releases:
- Batman:
The Animated Series – Secrets of the Caped
Crusader: This contains four episodes of the
Batman Animated series, all of which are included in
Batman:
The Animated Series – Volume One. Volume two
ships on January 25; expect a review. - Creature
from the Black Lagoon – The Legacy Collection: We
have plans for this. - D.A.R.Y.L.:
I loved the novel as a child, but have never seen the
movie. - Dracula:
This adaptation has Frank Langella and Laurence
Olivier. - Godzilla
7 Pack: Three and five packs are also available.
This has the 1998 Godzilla, but not the original.
Man, I hope they clear up the rights to that
soon. - Hellboy
(Director’s Cut): This is a three DVD edition
with footage not seen in theaters. - Invisible
Man Legacy Collection: Again with the plans. - Justice
League – The Brave and the Bold: I’ve got all of
the individual Justice League releases so far, but
I’m tempted to stop buying them in hopes of
collections like the Batman one I linked to above. I
hate not buying TV in full season sets. - The
Mummy Legacy Collection: More plans afoot. - Species
(Special Edition): I must confess, I actually
preordered this. Why? Because it has a commentary
track including Natasha Henstridge. I’ve always
wondered what she thought of this movie, and it’s
cheap enough that curiosity got the best of me. We
do have plans for this, but not in October. - Stargate
SG-1 Season 7: It’ll take time, but I assure you
we’ll get around to reviewing every season of this
show eventually. (We’re caught up to season
four.) - Superman
– A Little Piece of Home: Four more episodes of
the animated series. The 18 episode set of the
entire first season is out on January 25, and that’s
what I’m waiting for. - Van
Helsing (Widescreen Edition): Another one I
haven’t seen.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Arrested
Development – Season One: The only episode I’ve
seen amused me greatly. - The
Basketball Diaries: The reason we’ve heard of
Leonardo diCaprio. - Holy
Batmania!: A documentary on the old Batman series
with Adam West and Burt Ward. - Born
on the Fourth of July: I’ve never seen it, but
I’ve heard good things about it. - Due
South – Season Three: This was a great
series. - Ed
Wood: Johnny Depp as Ed Wood in a Tim Burton
film. How can it go wrong? - Eyes
Without a Face: Criterion Collection. Therefore,
worth owning, if you can afford it. - Fat
Girl: Another Criterion release. - Garfield
– The Movie: I deliberately chose not to see
this. I mention it only because some of our readers
may have children who wish to own it. - Greg
the Bunny – The Complete Series: Another great
show cancelled before its time. - It’s
a Wonderful Red Green Christmas: Why do I find
Red Green so funny? - SCTV
2: A second volume of the classic sketch
comedy. - Secret
Honor: Another Criterion release. - Spongebob
Squarepants – Complete Second Season: I’ve seen
this show, and don’t get the appeal. - Straw
Dogs: Another movie I’ve heard great things about
but haven’t seen. - Tom
and Jerry – The Spotlight Collection: It’s a two
DVD set that, oddly, doesn’t appeal to me. I love a
lot of classic animation, but not this. - The
Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection: A 14 DVD
set. - Wacky
Races – The Complete Series: It’s official: any
show can be profitable on DVD. - The
Wong Kar Wai Collection: The only title in this
set I’ve seen is Chungking Express, and I
love it. Based on the IMDB ratings, the others are
similar in quality. All but Chungking
Express were produced by Kino International, a
company I’m quite impressed with. (Chungking
Express is available in a Kino box set through a
special arrangement with the rights holder.)
