Supergirl becomes Xenu, The Flash meets another DC fan-favorite, Legends visits another 80s film, and Arrow lets the characters switch seats.

Supergirl – The Faithful – Kara investigates a secretive new group whose leader, Thomas Coville, has a mysterious connection to Supergirl. Meanwhile, Samantha feels like she’s letting Ruby down, and J’onn confesses an old secret.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Phone Home – The Legends learn that Ray Palmer will die because they broke time, causing them to race back to 1988 to try and save his life. When they arrive, they are surprised to learn that young Ray Palmer has befriended a time-displaced baby Dominator putting him in harm’s way with the government and the Dominator’s mother. New to the ship and missions, Zari must find her place and learn to trust the team. Meanwhile, Stein begins working on a secret project on the ship which makes Rory and Jax suspicious.
Arrow – The Reversal – Just as Oliver starts to get things in order, Black Siren launches another attack on the citizens of Star City.
As cheesy as it is, I’m kind of glad that Legends goes all in on the zaniness. Right down to shopping at lampshades ‘r’ us and actually going there with the iconic moon shot. It’s pretty clear the production team knows how crazy out there everything is so they double down on it whenever they can.
While they played the role reversal on Arrow largely for laughs, they did use it to move character arcs forward, which is definitely a good thing. Also, Emmerson’s character felt exactly like an evil version of his character on Person of Interest which seems somehow right. But, seriously, the *twitch* internet *twitch* doesn’t *twitchtwitch* work anything *twitchtwitch* like that *twitch*. All joking aside, given that their world has magic tech and instahacks™, it might not be so implausible that their internet works as described.
The internet does have a bit of what they were describing, with a few people controlling the keys to the top level. While there was so much wrong with how it got portrayed, I suspect the writers, like me, read an article and went from that.
I am not trying to claim they were accurate, just that they might be 30% accurate instead of 20%.
Yeah, except that the core servers are replicated and not singular points of failure. Sure, you can screw DNS up, but the damage would be distributed in time and by area and would be easily reversible/ignorable.
I really got thrown out by that plot. I spent the first few minutes when the plot was first stated figuring out that the entire DNS catalog for IPv4 would be a text file smaller than the recording of the actual show on my DVR.
Shorter explanation. This weeks Arrow plot was so bad it hurt my brain….
Yeah, I can’t really argue against that, but it does seem like they started a hairsbreadth closed to knowing what they were talking about than usual.
Wearing my Internet operator hat, I can say they did, in fact, get a lot closer to plausible than they usually do. And if they’d left out a few select lines of dialogue, it would have been a lot less twitch inducing and I could have just went, okay, this is an outgrowth of the magic hacking they’ve been doing for the past five years.
I have already learned to ignore the magic hacking, that always happens. I just thought that it was funny that three of the very limited number of master key carriers for the internet all used single-factor authentication AND lived right there in Star City with all those “Internet” servers.
The whole episode could have been avoided if someone had moved to Coast City or something.
Supergirl was pretty good and an interesting take.
Legends was mostly fun, but… YOU HAVE A TIME SHIP!!! You never have to leave “right now” or you’ll miss something!
Which brings us to Arrow. And I’d like to mention that I just had surgery on my hand so typing is pretty uncomfortable, but I kind of need to let out my THAT’S NOT HOW THE INTERNET WORKS WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE frustration. Seriously, getting Tech wrong is a staple of TV/Movies (yes, even Mr. Robot) but this? This was “A Joke On The IT Crowd” level wrongness. I’m not expecting the to be accurate but for goodness sake, at least TRY. UGH.
That said I actually liked the role reversal.
Supergirl was interesting, and I thought it was really in character that Supergirl says she remembers every person she saved. Also, I liked that someone just looked at her eyes and recognized her.
Legends is a fun romp, but is only a half step away from turning to the camera and saying “eeeh? Eeeh!!?”.
The people of Star City haven’t noticed that the Green Arrow’s build completely changed? Also, if you switch to a weird crossbow thing instead of a bow and arrow, and that’s supposed to allay suspicion?
Part of the reason I stopped watching.
However, with Alias Grace done, I feel like I have time for one more series, so I’m going to follow The Flash again for awhile.
