Comments | Alex: I’ve previously reviewed this on the site. |
Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “If you’re a fan of animation – anime or not – Your Name really should have a place in your collection.” Blaine says, “I can easily recommend the original 8 Harry Potter movies if you don’t own them already.”
Based on word-of-mouth, Westworld is on my To-Watch list.
I was skeptical, and the insistence that everyone sign an agreement that they’d be okay with doing full nudity seemed like a promo gimmick, but I’ve heard good things, and we’re going to watch it, likely in December.
I’ve read Glass Castle, and want to see if the movie works.
Also, what is the Godfather “Trilogy?” They only made two movies. And Lucas never made prequels to Star Wars. Also, this version just seems to be repackaging of material the fans already own. That’s definitely an offer I can refuse.
In Westworld, some characters are androids. The androids are frequently stored naked. There are some points where you find out a character you assumed was human wasn’t, so finding them on a slab, naked, undergoing maintenance, wouldn’t be out of place.
I think it was less about a gimmick, more about allowing the studio to change the script when they wanted a plot twist.
I’m not so sure about the plot twist angle as I thought that the first season was clearly plotted *extremely* well given how clearly everything fits together once the reveals are done. Changing someone who was intended to be human to android (or vice versa) part way through the writing process for a twist would stick out too much. Factor in the use of multiple timelines right from the first episode, and it’s even less likely that they were making it up as they went along. Whether they’ll be able to keep that level of consistency going forwards is an entirely different matter, of course, but I’m hopeful they at least have a plan for the next series given where they left off.
I’ll give you the gimmick angle though. It was a pretty blatent case of “sex sells” marketing right from the outset, particularly given it was going to appeal to a similar demographic as Game of Thrones and that some of the things the actors were allegedly asked to do (but didn’t) were “leaked” too.
Oh, I am sure the announcement of it was a marketing gimmick, but the clause itself probably had other motivations.
Yes. And it’s a damned shame they never made a sequel to The Matrix. That would have been epic.
Oh, I just saw the DC Animated 10th Anniversary collection. 30 movies for about $7 apiece. Very, very tempting.
