DC Television Week 7 Discussion

This week, Lucifer teases the answer to “Will they/Won’t they” while acting more like a traditional sit-com/cop drama.  Supergirl Wakes Up from the story that was all a dream to give us a second Supergirl.  The Flash reveals their season’s big bad’s backstory.  Legends continues to use well known names as show titles.  Arrow airs on Thanksgiving, so uses it as the theme for the episode.1

(Synopsis cut and pasted from Trakt.com.)

1You can always tell how far into the week’s TV I get when I post these because I stop making observations about the episode and instead make comments on the title.

  1. I tire of Barry constantly doing dumb things because the writers need something to happen. Last week, he stood in front of a large statue in the presence of a character whose weirdly specific power is manipulating statues, and then couldn’t get out of the way in time.

This week, he breaks into a house without a disguise, or even the use of his face-vibrating trick. It doesn’t occur to him that a supergenius might have a camera security system, of the sort not uncommon in 2017.

However, next week’s crossover looks to have potential.

    • I’m not excusing the showrunners, here. There are plenty of inconsistencies (like how fast Barry is depends on the needs of the plot which is just lazy).

That said, if there’s been anything consistent about Barry’s characterization, it’s that he is just not that bright. He might be very smart, but that’s useless if he doesn’t bother using those smarts. He doesn’t think anything through before he does it, and that’s been fairly consistent all along. He also doesn’t seem to have much situational awareness, and that has also quite consistent. The latter could easily be a result of the former. That said, I think it would be giving too much credit to the showrunners to assume that is intentional on their part.
