Premise:

The team develops a risky plan to help mutants who are in Sentinel Services’ custody. Reed reveals details to Andy and Lauren about the Struckers’ family history that could prove to be a game-changer.  (From Trakt.)

High Point:

The way the attack on the facility plays out.

Low Point:

The way they visualize the Strucker twins power leaves much to be desired.  It just ends up looking lower resolution, not like a higher power level.

The Scores:

Originality: 3/6 There isn’t much new ground to cover in a prison break story, but the emotions involved do make it feel more personal.  Still, I don’t know

Effects: 5/6 The CGI is much better than we see at DC, but I am not sure we can call excessive lens flare an effect.

Acting: 5/6 Everyone delivers on their personal emotional crises.

Production: 5/6 I have to give the production credit if they get you to care during the climax.

Story: 3/6 The overall plot doesn’t seem to be moving forward too much, but we do get at least a few steps forward here.  I suspect this is an episode to set up other things we’ll need this season.

Emotional Response: 5/6 Tense scenes felt tense, and they are doing a great job of not allowing you to just wave off any conflict because the good guys always win.

Overall: 5/6 It was a solid episode, despite my nit picks.

In total, “outfoX” receives 31/42

  1. Regarding that power effect, I’m not sure what you could do to visualize it better, at least on a TV production budget. At least the double vision sliding into focus bit makes sense based on the kids’ explanation of what was happening and the rest of it does kind of make sense as well.

I think I can safely say: Chekhov’s Nuke deployed. Now we wait to find out what it obliterates.

I do suspect that the kids’ power is not necessarily just mass scale destructive. Logically, once they have some practice, they’ll be able to control it a lot more finely than has occurred to anyone on the show yet. I’m actually expecting it to be used to make an epic shield (pushing things together instead of apart) or something similar at some point in the future.
