Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “The Dark Crystal is one of my favorite Jim Henson films, and is definitely worth picking up. If you already own The Dark Crystal, and you’ve been into the Universal Century Gundam timeline, this is probably the best way to pick up Gundam Unicorn.” Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen, I would go with The Dark Crystal as well. Of those I haven’t seen, Lady Bird is the most intruiging.”

  1. Barbarella will always have a place in my… let’s say heart. It’s cheesy as hell, but it’s still a classic that inspired many… well, let’s say parodies. Worth watching if only to get some Futurama jokes that you didn’t before.

Also it features the first striptease in space.

    • Agreed! When I first saw it as an adult, I realized I probably watched it way younger than I should have because I’d been dreaming of parties exactly like the ones later in the movie as I grew up. (I also took significantly longer than I should have to figure out how they did that striptease scene.)

Now, we have a supper fluffy set of sheets on our bed that I refer to as Barbarella because I said it makes our bed feel like her space ship. (My wife refers to me as insane.)

  2. Blue Planet II is gorgeous. If you have the ability to watch it in 4K, do so (I saw it at home on Blu-Ray, and it was lovely, but the demo they had at Costco in 4K was mind-blowing).

I don’t normally advocate for going with a higher-definition screen, since you don’t gain much, but for nature documentaries like these, it’s totally worth it.
