Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood: It’s a Beautiful Day
Amazon
  • DVD: US, CAN
Comments Alex: Fred Rogers would have been 90 years old this year. Sadly, the description doesn’t say which episodes are in this collection. I’d hope they have the appearances by Lou Ferrigno and Bill Bixby (both in the sense of seeing behind the scenes of the Incredible Hulk, but also for the conversation about getting angry), or Yo Yo Ma’s appearance on the show. (I think Itzhak Perlman was on the show as well, but I can’t remember when.)

  • Complete Series Blu-Ray: US
Comments Alex: Fanservicey anime series. The manga was released by DC’s short-lived Marvel brand, but it didn’t sell well due to some backlash over some censorship of the more risque elements that came across as a little excessive (especially considering the show kinda wears its fanservice on its sleeve).

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, ” I’m having trouble narrowing down my picks – Wrestling fans will like the Nature Boy documentary, Parents should absolutely have the Mister Rogers Neighborhood collection, and fans of anime and animation in general should get Robot Carnival on Blu-Ray.” Blaine says, “none of the first time releases catch my eye, but the rereleases of Outer Limits, Batman (1966), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are all worth checking out.”

  1. Legion was phenomenal. That show took a crazy amount of risks and they pretty much all paid off. If you haven’t watched it, it is well worth it.

And yes, I will be picking up a 4K copy of The Last Jedi… and then having all my friends who haven’t seen it yet over. By the way, this will be the first Star Wars movie released in 4K.

  2. Anyone know why Amazon still doesn’t have The Last Jedi available for pre-order? Are they just trying to push their digital version that hard?

    • I’ve been seeing that more and more with physical releases lately – it’s not a super new thing. I don’t know if it’s Amazon or Disney, though.

      • I think it’s Amazon. I could pre-order the Blu-Ray on Target.com (and the Blu-Ray is available now on Amazon).

With Disney movies, I prefer to get the physical medium since it includes a free digital copy as well.

        • I prefer to get physical mediums of everything and then rip them to my media server myself. Plus 4K isn’t super rippable yet.

        • Plot twist: the 4K was out of stock on Amazon almost instantly, and Target told me they only had one (!!) in the store.

This is the first Star Wars movie released in 4K; I don’t think they did a very good job rolling that out!
