joe__gee writes, Accourding to this site, which collates the Nielsen Ratings for “Star Trek: Enterprise”, season 4 got off to a slow start but is now showing improving ratings. This could just be a blip, but perhaps we’re seeing Trek faithful returning now that Manny Coto has taken the helm and seems to be steering Trek back towards its established history. Maybe we’ll get a season 5 after all? The final ratings and shares are statistical numbers that have some flexibility. The numbers that look promising to me are the total viewers; the total number of people actually tuning in has increased by over 15% this season. It’s a good sign.

This season is really getting Star Trek back to what it should be, and Enterprise in particular: showing the history of Earth’s move into the galactic realm. I particularly like the larger, stronger, stories enabled by the three episode arcs too. If they keep this up, Enterprise could become my second favorite series, after TNG…
No “Spiner” Effect
It appears that Brent Spiner’s appearance for three episodes didn’t have a dramatic improvement over “Home” or either “Storm Front.” Either way, I think this has been a great improvement over the last 3 seasons.
Better Season
I agree that this season is much better than season 1/2’s “alien of the week” type. Season 3 was a bit better, but it still had that feeling.
When Enterprise started, I was excited that they would explore what is was like pre – Federation. We didn’t get that, or barely. They are doing it now, and hopefully they’ll be able to fill up the story up till TOS.
Exploring the galaxy is all fine and dandy, but they do a lot of that in the later series.
Hopefully this season will get enough for a renewal, especially with the better shows. I don’t know if it will though. I think this is the first ST to ever get an increase in ratings if I’m not mistaking. Usually ratings go down with the season. Hopefully people who gave up on it after season1/2 will come back though.

Most places i’ve seen, they say it keeps going down. Its a pity now that they seem to be getting back to the roots of Trek – but i suppose the only ones who were left where those who tune into a show because some of the cast are “hot” and they don’t when there is too much talk on the show… oh well.

They’ve gotten me back, having mostly lost me from the start (I was watching every other episode) and then completely losing me last year. I picked back up again with the Spiner episodes and if things keep going as they are, I’ll be in it for the long haul. Thank God for Manny.

After three seasons of humdrum episodes, it looks like Enterprise is doing a
“Voyager”….it’s actually become worth watching. I’m actually LOOKING
FORWARD to watching Enterprise weekly now. I hope the show survives.

When was Voyager worth watching? I watched that show through its entire run – it jumped the shark with Kes’ leaving and B&B continued to run it into the ground until they succeeded in destroying the most evil thing ever envisioned on Trek by making it only kind of bad (I know, Borg Children! They’re just what we need!).
DS9 had some serious problems in its first two seasons, but once they hit the Dominion Wars, man, that was some great Trek!

I know it doesn’t sound right, but the “Year of Hell” episodes and follow-ups were pretty good.
I know, it was the ultimate time-travel-reset-button episode, but this is the one that was actually worth watching (hey, they made soo many of ’em, statistically, one of had to be good).
Maaaaaaybe I’m just saying it because Red Foreman/Clarence Boddicker was in it ;-)
And as for DS9, when the dominion war started, it stopped being Star Trek, I don’t care if it was a good space-war, it was Trek only in the sense that they were abusing its trademarked name.
I stopped watching DS9 when I realised that Sisko was never going to make the link between the Tosk and the Jem’Hadar:

They knew which planet Tosk came from, they should have followed up on that, had they been competant. But since I’m the only person who noticed, I guess being competant isn’t as important as having more ‘splosions.
What do you get when you cross a Tosk and a Klingon? The fucking Jem’Hadar. Never could think they were cool. Also, I took the Defiant as an admition that having the show on a lame space-station was a stupid idea in the first place. Notice how everyone thought it was good only AFTER they got a damn ship… ok, now I’m just ranting, it’s enough…

I’ll Watch a Few More
Season 1 wasn’t bad and the first half of season 2 I really enjoyed. There was to much trashy, slutty stuff though and the second half of season 2 really sucked.
Season 3 was worthless with only a few good episodes towards the end, but T’Pol was a crackhead and lose – not to mention full of emotions.
I rate all vulcans by Spock. Soval, even though he’s was prick, was the only straight-face vulcan in the lot. Well, there was V’Lar in Fallen Hero… she was cool too.
But the rest of them are all emotionally unstable idiots that couldn’t pass an IQ test. Blalock even hated where they were taking her character.
I gave up after Season 3. I still don’t know how the cold war ended and how Archer got away from alien hitler. I don’t care either.
I started watching again at the Vulcan arc and am actually looking forward to next week’s wrap-up.
Coto seems to be doing a decent job of fixing B&B’s massive screw-ups with the vulcan revolution, the andorian conflict, and the romulan wars.
I’ll watch a few more and if it doesn’t suck, I’ll start watching it again. Can B&B’s damage be reversed enough to give Enterprise a full 7 years? We’ll see.
