Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 7th October 2018

**blows Dust Cumulation off of discussion posts**

Woah, the new season is racing in, as The Flash, Black Lightning, and Riverdale join The Gifted as our weekly TV shows, and catching me off guard because I wasn’t paying attention.  I am leaving out our animated shows, but let me know if anyone is watching any of them enough to include them.  I don’t think we get any new Netflix shows until The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina joins us on the 26th.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut.  (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…)]

The Flash – S05E01 – Nora – (Season Opener) – After an unexpected guest from the future, Nora West-Allen, appears at their home, Barry and Iris must figure out how to get her back to the future without disrupting the timeline… even more than she already has. Team Flash must work together to send Nora back, while simultaneously fighting off another villainous meta.

Black Lightning – S02E01 – The Book of Consequences: The Rise of The Green Light Babies: Chapter One (Season Opener and painfully long title) – Jefferson Pierce and his family may have survived Tobias’s attack, but they’re not out of the woods yet. Concerned for the safety of Garfield’s students, the board considers a motion to shut down the school, forcing Jefferson to go to Napier Frank to sway the vote. Jennifer struggles with her powers and her actions have unforeseen repercussions. Meanwhile, Anissa finds a new way to give back to Freeland. Lastly, Lynn continues her quest much to the dismay of Agent Odell.

The Gifted – S02E03 – coMplications – Polaris’ baby begins to suffer from a deadly illness, leaving the Inner Circle unable to heal her, and prompting them to turn to an unexpected source for help. Meanwhile, Reed and Lauren take an excursion to deliver illegal meds, but Reed’s powers complicate their plans. Then, Thunderbird and Blink meet the leader of the Morlocks – a shadowy group of mutants that live underground – who offers to help them find the Inner Circle, but the two factions may not have the same goals. (Keep refreshing Bureau42 for a review.)

Riverdale – S03E01 – Chapter Thirty-Six: Labor Day – (Season Opener) – As the jury begins deliberations in his murder trial, Archie makes a surprising request about how he wants to spend his final days of summer. Betty is forced to deal with her problems head-on after a heated confrontation with Alice and Polly brings up some dark secrets she’s kept hidden. Veronica pleads with Hiram to step in and help Archie before a verdict is announced. Finally, Jughead leads the Serpents against the Ghoulies latest attack.

Bonus:

Constantine: City of Demons – Special 2 – A decade after a tragic mistake, family man Chas and occult detective John Constantine set out to cure Chas’s daughter Trish from a mysterious supernatural coma. With the help of the mysterious Nightmare Nurse, the influential Queen of Angels, and brutal Aztec God Mictlantecuhtli, the pair just might have a chance at outsmarting the demon Beroul to save Trish’s soul. In a world of shadows and dark magic, not everything is what it seems, and there’s always a price to pay. The path to redemption is never easy, and if Constantine is to succeed, he must navigate through the dark urban underbelly of Los Angeles, outwit the most cunning spawns of hell, and come face to face with arch-nemesis Nergal – all while battling his own inner demons!

  1. I am pretty sure my wife and I aren’t watching Riverdale. We stuck it out through Season 2, and didn’t enjoy it. Can someone comment on how it feels compared to last season, and if Sabrina needs it as a tie in?

Also, I rewatched all of Sabrina The Teenage Witch (where she spends most of the show out of her teens and in college), and I thought it was odd that none of the characters looked like the comic characters, but it’s kinda funny that this show’s characters do look like this comic’s characters. Though I suspect this comic’s characters were as much based on the TV show as they were the original comics.

    • We watched Riverdale. They seem to have replaced it with a toned down American Horror Story but with a bunch of scenes from a teenage softcore. I hope this isn’t because they are going to tie into Sabrina. I mean seriously, Cheryl Blossom does even bother with shirts anymore.
