Comic Television Discussion – Week beginning 18th November 2018

While the Diverse Champions soldier on through the American Thanksgiving holiday, Archie and Marvel take the week off.  Supergirl has a televised debate, a guard is murdered on Arrow, the Legends find Kaiju in Tokyo, the B team on Flash find some clues, Black Lightning faces white lightning, and the Titans visit an Asylum.  I have a backlog, which is only going to get deeper as Turkey Day brings a new Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathon!

  1. Supergirl is getting kind of depressing, but, oddly, that’s not an indictment. I do hope all of it is adding up to something, though. If the payoff is just that some sort of handwavium noodles in at that last attosecond and ex machinas everything without any consequences for any of the heroes, I will be seriously annoyed. At some point, Kara *really* needs to get her hands dirty instead of everyone around her somehow always just happening to do the necessary thing allowing her to squeak through without having to do anything questionable.

  2. Watching the Flash made me double check some physics:

At the physically impossible-to-reach temperature of zero kelvin, or minus 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 273.15 degrees Celsius), atoms would stop moving. As such, nothing can be colder than absolute zero on the Kelvin scale.

…And then I realized I shouldn’t assume my universe’s physics apply to a universe where exposure to weird radiation causes super powers and not super tumors.

    • Yeah. I long since gave up expecting anything resembling real world physics from Flash/Arrow/Legends/Supergirl/etc. I mean then don’t even get within hailing distance of newtonian mechanics half the time. And for that I mean when the superpowers aren’t in play since with the super powers you can at least postulate that there’s some sort of “inertial dampening” effect.

      • They can at least be generic, like Stan Lee always said. What makes Bruce into the Hulk? Gamma Radiation. Why? Because it sounds good. How do the Heisenberg Compensaters work? Very well, thank you.
