Jack Chalker Seriously Ill

Here’s a chance where we can actually do something before it’s too late.

Jack L. Chalker, author of Midnight At the Well of Souls and more than 30 other novels has suffered congestive heart failure and is barely maintaining consciousness. His family has been coping with this since December 6th, and their finances and emotions have been stretched to the limit. Here is a link to his wife’s blog where you can find updates on his condition and a place where you can donate to the family. I’ve been told that all messages from fans will reach him, if he’s able to read them. Alternatively, if you don’t want to donate, go somewhere and buy his books – I’ve read everything he’s written, and can recommend without reservation anything that’s currently in print.

I’ve been a fan of this man’s work since the first Well of Souls book, and the fact that he live just over 2 hours from me has always been some tiny sort of connection. There was always the possibility that he’d turn up at a convention, and if I was there too, well, I’d be able to meet him. I’m not sure why that mattered, but it did. I can’t really put more than this into words. Let’s do *something*.

I grew up reading Chalker. First “The Four Lords of the Diamond,” then the Nathan Brazil (Wellworld) books, and the Well of Souls series, as well as the Devil Will Drag You Under.

This is a very sad time. Thank you for posting this information. I’ve been following this very tragic story on Eva’s blog. My thoughts are with all of them.
