Fantastic Four cast pic

octa
submitted a link to a Fantastic Four cast
picture. However, this
link
is the one I’m providing instead; it’s the
same image in higher resolution. The cast pics have
been available just over a month, and the teaser
trailer premiers a week from tonight (on prints of
Elektra), but we’ve been a bit too lax in
letting our readers know about them. Enjoy!

  1. Zippers
I’ve always wondered . . . what is it that makes the zippers on female superhero costumes only go half the distance of those on the male costumes? ;)

      Boobies need to breath.

At least they didn’t use the awful costume Sue wore for a time during the Tom Defalco/Paul Ryan run of FF where it was basically a bikini, and, instead of being stitched in, the “four” symbol was a friggin’ CUTOUT. I’m sure I was supposed to be titillated but between Sue’s characterization (as a bitch on wheels) and the costume (just an AWFUL design), it helped turn me right off the book. Defalco’s hideous decision to turn Alicia Masters Storm (Ben Grimm’s blind former sweety who married Johnny Storm during a pretty compelling storyline from the Byrne era) into a friggin’ skrull sealed the no-FF deal for me. Dark times…

The zipper only goes half the distance as a comprimise. The males have zippers that go all the way up because the zippers can also go all the way down. Sticking only to superhero shows and movies, off the top of my head I can remember topless male leads in each of the following:

      • Spiderman
      • Smallville
      • X-Men
      • Hulk
      • Angel
      • The Flash
      • Lois and Clark
      • The Punisher

Comparatively, I can’t think of a single genre show that had a topless female. Now, my knowledge isn’t all inclusive, but I think this would be something I would remember.

Now, please don’t take this as a defense of cheesecake. I think we would all prefer competent writing over cheap thrills. All I’m saying is that any movement to cover up the Miss Alba’s collarbone should also promise to cover up Tom Welling’s naked butt.

That one was SO cheap. It’s a scene where he takes off his shirt and flexes his muscles for the sake of looking hot. The ladies enjoyed it though, and that little girl from Interview with the Vampire had a cheap wet t-shirt scene later on: equal opportunity exploitation.

This season’s Smallville has been trying hard to be cheaper though. Hell, when Clark’s pick up blew up, he took off his shirt because it was on fire, so that was cool. But this year, they aren’t even trying to give him a reason. Also, apparently the meteor shower killed everyone except the numerous underwear models…

There are ways to write a scene where the shapely male lead can display his six-pack and well-toned pecks in a way that makes sense. Like in the transporter: He escapes a sticky situation by jumping in water, he later takes off his wet shirt to put on something dry. That was a well-written topless man meat scene.

  2. Casting
Hrmm, interesting choice for Dr. Doom. Not quite the leap of faith of casting Michael Duncan as Kingpin, but I don’t really think Julian McMahon screams East European megalomaniac super-genius.

On the upside, Jessica Alba is turning into quite the SF/F poster girl. First with Dark Angel, now she’s got Sin City and FF coming up.

Well, frankly, I preferred Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin to havning a Pro Wrestler (who who originally looked at to play the part) in the white suit.

He’s the only actor big enough for the role, I don’t know why people kept saying “but Kingpin isn’t black”… compared to his size, his race is of no importance. What defines him: BIG and bald, which Duncan provided like no one else could.

I figured they were going for a Suge Knight look, you know, to really scare white America.

Yeah, but all the cool people knew. ; )

  3. Now THAT is professional photography
In just one image, they have on display her rump, breasts, legs and sexy face.

The hand is placed to accentuate the curves of her lower back too… deserves golf-claps.

  4. Hair problems
I thought Jessica Alba was hot back when she was in Flipper. Before anybody starts comparing me to Micheal Jackson, I was 15 at the time.

Back on topic, I’m not sure the blond hair works for her, but that’s just me. I prefer brunettes.

While I’m talking about hair… is it my imagination or does Reed look a tad youthful to be sporting gray hair?

Okay, I’ll stop talking… for now.

I liked her hair when it was black and shiny. Why oh why did she have to dye it?

  5. The Sound
I Wonder How They’ll Do The Sound. I Remember In The 10 Cent Issue The Reporter In The Story Line Saying That Ben Sounds Like A Pile Of Rocks Someone Put In A Pillowcase, And That Reed Sounds Like You’re Running Your Fingers Over A Balloon’s Surface.

Think The Movie Will Take Any Of That Into Account?

That crossed my mind, too. I hope so. It would really add a lot of character to the effects. Although judging by these pics, Ben isn’t as “rocky” as he is in the comics. Still, some noises when he moves would be cool — something subtle, that blends into the background, but that reminds you he’s not really human anymore. (c.f. the little whirring noises that C-3PO made whenever he so much as twitched.)
