  1. The Village?
The trailers had be highly anticipating this one. Some spoilers..
While watching it with my wife, fairly quickly into it I mentioned to her that it’d be funny if it was actually in modern times. The only evidence we had that it was the past was the headstone, which is completely circumstantial. So needless to say I was laughing myself silly when the end happened. M. Night’s cameo was completely poinless though, and he needs to learn to act, simply saying something slowly doesn’t make it good.

One question – was the leading actress (the blind girl, forget her name) the same person who played Mal’s wife in Firefly?

No…the blind girl was played by Bryce Dallas Howard (Ron Howard’s daughter, thats how I remember her name) and YoSafBridge was played by Christina Hendricks.

Sorry for missing that little checkbox, hope I didn’t spoil anything for anyone.

  2. Luc Besson
Nice to see Luc Besson’s work getting some better releases than the ones I have now.

And yet, the French track isn’t included. There’s has got to be a lawyer to blame about this somewhere…

      I hate region coding.

Strange that. Of course, both of these were made for the US market, so I am less upset about that than I am about the poor subtitle translation on the DVD of La Femme Nikita. The VHS version got the translation better.

Definitely – this is the uncut international version too, which was released on DVD in region 1 but is insanely hard to find. It’s got about 13 extra minutes that expand on the Leon-Mathilda relationship, and makes the movie, IMHO, much better than the original North American cut (plus the scenes of Mathilda helping him ‘clean’ are really cool).
