Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “When Hardcore Henry came out – The Lady in the Lake is the movie that first came to my mind, in terms of other movies that were shot entirely in the first person – and I wanted to see this film to get an idea how well the concept had worked in the past. Now that the film is in print again, it’s definitely on my list of films to pick up.” Blaine says, “If you are open to digital collections instead of physical, go with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
I loved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I took my kids, who loved it. They’ve been begging to see it again. I can’t wait to show my animation-unfriendly wife this because it’s that good.
I recall seeing a few episodes of Beastmaster, a low-budget and unimpressive attempt to do a Xena-type Sword and Sorcery show. We watched those few eps because my wife had been a huge Andre Norton fan when she was a kid– Norton’s work is the basis for the series. Not even she could get into this as anything but cheap laughs. However, it managed three seasons, so someone must have liked it.
Has anyone seen the remake of Willard? I want to watch it, so I can do a two-movie-and-the-source-novel review for next October’s Halloween Countdown.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about the Challenger‘s “Untold Story.” They slap that on half the documentaries made. From what I can glean, it appears to be more a case of looking at the whole story in the light of that investigation and history, things that weren’t immediately available at the time of the disaster (And I can remember exactly where I was when I heard this news). People tend to move on after a news story happens, and don’t have that full story unless it’s of particular interest to them.
Andromeda is one of those shows that started out weird, then got pretty OK, then went blergh.
I was curious to see how overpriced the Dolph Lundren Collection is. It costs $6.77, so it’s about $6.77 overpriced, which is pretty good!
I’ve only ever watched a few episodes of Andromeda, though it was interesting to see the adult Laura Bertram (Trance Gemini) , who was a highly visible Canadian TV child star in the mid-to-late 1990s, when my nieces and nephews were kids, and good to see Kevin Sorbo working after Hercules. The series itself never really grabbed me, though it certainly had a following.
There’s a park named after Kevin Sorbo not that far from where I live, I always kiiinda regret not going there… but not enough to actually do it.
Well, should I ever be driving through Mound, Minnesota…..
