Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, ” I missed Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-verse when it was in theaters, and now that it’s out on video, I intend to rectify that fact and see the movie.” Blaine says, “In any other week, I could easily pick either the Criterion release of Detour or the Doctor Who Blu-Ray, but when those are up against Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the latter wins easily. That’s probably my favourite Spider-Man film of all time.”
I suppose most people’s pick will be Into the Spider-verse, though, as always, there’s an interesting mish-mash of releases. We reviewed The Witches/The Devil’s Own (1966) as an October Countdown awhile back, and it’s an interesting piece of horror history. Tom Baker defined Doctor Who for many people, and his final season in the role appears here remastered. I will likely never see Losin’ It, but I recall it being in the theatres, an also-ran in the run of “rowdy teen comedies set between 1955-1962” that hit for about a decade after American Graffiti.
The NOVA Apollo documentary is well-regarded, though I don’t know how much it includes that people drawn to 1960s space-program documentaries haven’t seen already. I’m sure I’ll see it anyway.
Hillbilly also looks as though it might be worth a look.
Ditto on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it’s Amazing, Spectacular, and Ultimate.
