Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2019 June 2

School’s out for summer, and TV’s out for the season.  I hope you didn’t rush through some of the streaming seasons, because this week we only have an episode of Elementary and an episode of Swamp Thing.  There’s also an animated return for Young Justice, if you’re desperate.  Next week isn’t much better, but the Agents return from their week off, and we get the first episode of Krypton (S02) and the last season of Jessica Jones.  Do you have anything else you’re watching in the meantime?

[edit] Sorry, I misread, Young Justice isn’t back for another month.

[edit, again] Handmaid’s Tale returned on the 5th, added it.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv or IMDB below the cut, except when there really aren’t any.  (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…)]

Elementary – S07E03 – The Price of Admission – Holmes takes extreme measures to secure his return to New York when he leans on his father’s disreputable connections to aid his legal re-entry into the United States. Watson helps the NYPD investigate a murder at a storage facility that caters to wealthy clients with items they want hidden from U.S. Customs.

Swamp Thing – S01E02 – Worlds Apart – When one of her patients, Susie Coyle, escapes from the hospital, Abby and Matt follow her into the swamp. There, Abby encounters Swamp Thing – a creature that Susie later identifies as Alec Holland.

The Handmaid’s Tale – S03E01 – Night – June embarks on a bold mission with unexpected consequences. Emily and Nichole make a harrowing journey. The Waterfords reckon with Serena Joy’s choice to send Nichole away.

The Handmaid’s Tale – S03E02 – Mary and Martha – June helps Marthas with a dangerous task while navigating a relationship with her pious and untrustworthy new walking partner. Emily and Luke struggle with their altered circumstances.

The Handmaid’s Tale – S03E03 – Watch Out – June navigates a meeting where she must face both Commander Waterford and Nick. Serena Joy attempts to recuperate at her mother’s home. Lawrence teaches June a hard lesson about the difficult decisions he makes as a Commander.

Good Omens – S01 – The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.

    • Elementary got a reprieve for a 13 episode final seventh season after being cancelled after Season 6. Perhaps unfortunately that decision came after they’d already wrapped things up last season so now they get to do it all over again. On the plus side, if this season sucks, I guess fans can just pretend it doesn’t exist…

As for other shows, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is back next week, although not sure if I’m going to watch it since reviews are saying it’s struggling even that the last season from the lack of Atwell’s source material.

I also just finished binge watching “Good Omens”; not the best FX and omits some favourite characters, but the chemistry between the actors is very good, and it’s mostly faithful to the source material (especially the humour). Well worth a watch if you’re a fan of either Pratchett or Gaiman, and a good way to pass a bit of time in the genre if you’re just waiting for another show to return.

      • And a further edit to add Handmaid’s Tale. I want to start watching that at some point.

Elementary, Season 7, has been fun so far. I was glad to see it back.

  1. Isn’t Young Justice coming back in a month on July 2nd?

I’ve watched the first two epsides of Good Omens. great stuff. Trying to pace myself to make it last a little bit longer.

  2. Still making my way through Doom Patrol, and will review when the Canadian broadcast finishes. I’ll have a review of the peculiar season finale of Twilight Zone up soon.
