Comments Adaptation of the classic Go Nagai manga (which sticks closer to the manga than a remake of the original anime). The limited edition release comes with an art book and some extremely risque art cards so, keep that in mind.

Comments Blaine: While this wasn’t a great movie, I found that it wasn’t as bad as its reputation would imply. I don’t know that anyone but die hard fans would want to own in, but if you avoided it because of the reviews, it may be worth checking out when it crops up on your favourite streaming service.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Alita: Battle Angel was, in my view, an intensely underrated film from last year, and I’d say it’s definitely worth picking up. On the anime front, Nichijou is a tremendously wonderful anime series, with tremendously well written gags, and gorgeously fluid animation. It is a fantastic example of the excellent work that Kyoto Animation had been doing – and I hope will be able to continue to do in the future.”

  1. Hellboy 2019 wasn’t nearly as bad as I heard it would be. Had it been a DC movie, I’d have put it up with Aquaman and Shazam, maybe even a bit above them.

  2. I miss the days when 1984 was fiction.

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

    • While I heartily agree that the degree the various government are blatantly lying to their constituents is absurd these days, I think it may be overly romanticizing to suggest it’s new. I was listening to a lot of a nerdcore rapper I like (MC Lars) who’s back catalog contains many songs railing against “W”. Since that was the time in my life I started collecting MP3s, I also find a lot of other artists with similar complaints from decades ago. I strongly suspect that before I was born the same sort of complaints were lodged against Nixon (at least, that’s how it feels when I see him portrayed in the comics from the 70s I’ve read). I don’t know enough about Margaret Thatcher, but her name shows up enough for me to suspect she’s another offender.

It’s early and before my coffee, but I think my point is that “I’m not sure it was fiction.”
