No! There’s no guarentee that it’s the final version or anything close to it. It airs in the UK in about three weeks, so I’m sure we can all wait until then for someone to review it. I’ll do it if I have to, since I’ll be watching it live anyway.

I’m hoping the show gets picked up on this side of the ditch soon. I’m just finishing The Discontinuity Guide; looks like it might have to be updated.

I will be reviewing the little-seen (at least in North America) Dr. Who/Eastenders crossover later this week, as part of the build-up to the new show.

          April 5th. CBC.

Makes me proud to be Canadian.

Eastenders? Isn’t that basically a ‘soap opera’? (I only remember seeing a few snippets of it years ago when I could still afford the spiffy digital cable package, and thus had BBC America. I could be mis-remembering the show entirely.)

          If so, whiskey tango foxtrot?

          • Re: Dr. Who

Yep. It’s a soap set in working-class London. And yeah, they did a crossover with Dr. Who. I’ll have my review up later tonight or tomorrow.

            All will become clear.

Warren Ellis already has one up here (it’s semi-spoilerish, so beware!) as does T. Campbell’s Science Fiction Blog here.

I’m really looking forward to this.

I just hope my scarf is ready by April 5th…

i found the show and a torrent file on emule which i then used to download the show with bittorrent as the emule dl was going too slow… haven’t watched it yet. btw, someone else mentioned cbc. bbc just said they are launching an investigation into who leaked it and they say it appears to be from someone close to the cbc. something tells me they aren’t happy…

oh, heh, i was amused after just seein this completely unrelated newsbit: tarantino to kill jason?

  2. watched it

I watched it last night. After the treatment the Doctor has gotten since
the mid-eighties, I wasn’t sure if I should be looking forward to this or
concerned about The Doctor’s legacy being further tarnished. I think it’s safe
to say, if you liked the show “back in the day”, you’ll like it. Obviously the
show was intended as a brief introduction, and I won’t stay satisfied
if we don’t get more depth going forward. I’m extremely optimistic, based on
    what I’ve seen.

I thought it was great. The new Doctor is excellent, and several of the scenes were tremendously entertaining. I was hoping they would do the transition from Doctor to Doctor, just to maintain continuity (that’s one thing the American telefilm did well), but this was still good old fashioned Doctor Who, even if it did play out too quickly. :)

I don’t understand why anyone would think this series would not be accessible to us Yanks. I grew up watching Doctor Who on PBS. I loved every single silly gag, and I was thrilled by every single narrow escape. :) I’m hopeful BBC America will run the new show if Sci Fi can’t be persuaded.

Anyways, if neither network will pick it up, thank goodness for alternate sources of programming.

yeah i hope that is an aspect they will change when it hits tv. even tho it isn’t necessarily important for the character, it would likely annoy a lot of longtime fans. however i’m alsways surprised by how fans react to change, sometimes they embrace it and others they go looking for torches and pitchforks…

  3. Watching this weekend
We have a party scheduled this weekend to watch it! I can hardly wait. I heard Sci-Fi passed on it, not sure why unless it has to do with cost.

I heard SciFi passed on it because it didn’t fit into their programming plans (or something like that). I find it interesting that SciFi finally has one hit night with SciFi Fridays but they still do reruns of Stargate SG-1 on Mondays. Wouldn’t it be better to air something new with a built-in fan base rather than showing reruns?

      I want my Doctor Who!

  4. SciFi Channel mail in?
Think it would do any good to mail into the network to ask them to reconcider on Dr. Who?

  5. Watched it.
And liked it. I had some trouble with little things, the boyfriend living for one.

Still, I had been really doubting the idea of another series (after that really lame movie), but now I’m looking forward to it. This episode shows plenty of the right kinds of quirkiness to win me over into the “tentative hope” category, for the time being.
