I’m all moved in and back online, so I’ll celebrate by
posting another DVD column.
First, the genre releases:
- Astro
Boy –
The Complete Series (2003): These aren’t the ones
I grew up with,
but the recent attempt to revive the character. - Toxic
Avenger: This is the 21st Anniversary Edition of
the camp
classic. - Twilight
Zone
– Season 2 (The Definitive Collection): The
original series
continues to come to DVD in season packages. - Wind
in the
Willows – The Complete First Season: I remember
that this was on
often when I was a kid, and that I deliberately chose
not to watch
it.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Apollo
13 –
10th Anniversary Edition: This is a great movie.
Entertaining and
inspiring. - Closer:
This movie had multiple Oscar nominations. - I
Vitonelli: Federico Fellinni gets another
Criterion Collection
release. - Kagemusha:
Another Kurosawa film reaches the Criterion
Collection, as well. - Murder,
She
Wrote – Complete Season One: This was before JMS
started writing
for the series.
Finally, the pick of the week. I have to go with The
Lone
Gunmen. This is the complete series, including the
pilot (uncut),
and “Jump The Shark,” the episode of The
X-Files that wrapped
up the loose ends. I have to give Fox credit for
releasing that pilot
as is, considering how closely it accidentally
paralleled 9/11. I’ll
own this series by the end of the year, I promise you.
