This week is packed with mediocrity.
First, the genre releases:
- Harvey
Birdman, Attourney at Law, Vol. 1: This is lawyer
with wings. - Knight
Rider –
Season Two: Season one is also being rereleased
today. - Waterworld:
At
the time, the most expensive flop ever made.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- All
In The
Family – Season Four: The show continued well past
the point of
tiredom. Still, it had an undeniable impact. - The
Bob
Newhart Show: The first season of this
sitcom. - Hotel
Rwanda: Don Cheadle got an Oscar nomination for
this work. - Kuffs:
This was the first time I noticed Milla Jovovich.
Christian Slater
gets considerably more screen time, though. - Magnum
P.I. –
The Complete Second Season: As with Knight
Rider, the
first season is being rereleased today. - Oceans’
Twelve: I haven’t seen this one. Soderbergh’s
first film in this
series was heavy on style, and light on substance, but
still enjoyable. - The
A-Team,
Season Two: I love it when a DVD set comes
together. The first
season is released on the same day.
Finally, the pick of the week. Sledge
Hammer!
Season Two: Trust him, he knows what he’s doing.
Frankly, it’s
not that strong a recommendation. It’s just a really
weak week.
There is a lot of good material out, but very little
that’s great.
Peanut!…(peanut!)
Harvey Birdman. If my suppliers don’t get back to me at work I may have to order it from Amazon, but either way it’s money well spent. “The Dabba Don” may be one of the best Sopranos spoofs ever done, and “A Very Personal Injury” actually makes use of a Superfriend without being unwatchable.
Hilarious stuff – it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but for the price ($17.47 at Amazon.ca) I don’t think you can go wrong.
Re: Peanut!…(peanut!)
Does this box include the episode with the Scooby-Doo cast? (As opposed to the Scooby gang from Buffy, most of whom have ended up on Robot Chicken.)
It’s sometimes hard to keep track of how [adult swim] does some of their weird “deciding which shows belong in which box” stuff, and I’m not sure what the proper title of that episode is, so I dunno. That episode is easily worth the price of admission all by its lonesome, IMO.
Re: Peanut!…(peanut!)
It’s got the “Shaggy Busted” episode as far as I know, but I’m not sure if there are any others with the Scooby-Doo cast (Teletoon’s scheduling of this confuses me, so the only way I’ve seen most of them is through… other means, so I may have missed some).
