Brannon Braga on Killing Enterprise

shayward writes, A TGL report here has a quote from Brannon Braga in response to fans that say he killed Enterprise with crappy writing. \”There’s a small but vocal group of people who have been lambasting me ever since \’Next Generation\’.\” I would like to point out that his writing and producing weren\’t always as bad as they were for Voyager and Enterprise.

Oh, I agree about Berman. But Braga is not guiltless either. Braga is part of the desire for T&A, explosions, and stupid story lines.

He’s largely to blame for the Temporal Cold War, evil Vulcans, Vulcan AIDS, and continuity breaks – all of most hated things in Enterprise.

Coto’s team turned the evil Vulcans into something good, though, so in retrospect it worked out well. No thanks to Braga though.

When it comes to writing, anything that has Berman’s name on it is nonsense. He could write a note for a blind man. So anything with B&B’s name falls largely to Braga. That includes the successes and failures.

Broken Bow: Temporal Cold War stuff. It blows.
Fight or Flight: Plot holes, stupid story line
      Strange New World: So, so
      Unexpected: Good
      Terra Nova: Not very likely
      The Andorian Incident: Good
      Shadows of P’Jem: Good
      Shuttlepod One: Dumb, Dumb, Dumb
Fusion: Stupid mind rape BS… done better in TNG
Rogue Planet: So So… cool idea.
Acquisition: Continuity Break and VERY Stupid
      Oasis: So so
      Detained: So so
Vox Sola: Continuity problems – technology obtained too fast
      Fallen Hero: Good
      Desert Crossing: Dumb
Two Days and Two Nights: Cold War Crap
Shockwave: Dumb with Cold War Crap
      Carbon Creek: REALLY stupid
A Night in Sickbay: REALLY, REALLY stupid
      Marauders: So so
      The Seventh: Crap
      The Communicator: Good
      Vanishing Point: Good
      Precious Cargo: Dumb T&A Excuse
      Stigma: Retarded
The Crossing: Been there, done that, this was the worst version of it
Cogenitor: Not bad but quick progress of cogenitor not realistic
Bounty; So so… nice Tellarite stuff
The Expanse: Bad, Bad, Bad plus TCW crap
The Xindi: Bland and Boring plus TCW crap
Carpenter Street: Been there, done that, was dumb the first time and worse this time plus TCW crap
      Harbinger: Bad, Bad, Bad
      Azati Prime: Great
      Zero Hour: Good
These Are the Voyages… – Sounds like it blows

So Braga has written a few good ones, one great one, and a lot of really crappy ones. Many of the crappy ones bring in the aspects of Enterprise that Trekkies hate.

Berman should be skinned and salted. Braga should just be skinned.

      • Re: Leave Braga alone

Berman should be skinned and salted. Braga should just be skinned.

Come on, Braga is Wormtongue to Berman’s Saruman.

He’s done bad things, but he was under the command of a greater evil.
Also, he bagged seven of nine, we GOTS to give him props for that. And he had nothing to do with DS9, and he wrote “All good things…”, that’s kewl.

        • Re: Leave Braga alone

And he had nothing to do with DS9

That’s only a good thing because he didn’t have a chance to screw it up.

Also, I agree to the props on the Seven of Nine bit.

  1. Brannon Braga Bites
Just saw the last new Enterprise (downloaded of course) and though I didn’t notice who produced/wrote it – it had the sour stink of a Berman/Braga producion all over it.

Fizko… if you’d allow me to do a guest review of the last piece of crap , I’d force myself to watch it again ( I have Dramamine) and would LOVE to review that piece of crap.

    Impartially, of course.

Just what part of naked writhing phermonal nympho bimbo slave women do you think doesn’t deserve to be part of the ST universe?

Star Trek is theangrymob’s domain, so I’ll let you
hash it out with him. In most cases, guest reviews are
welcome. I even plan to finish off the rubrics and post
those with the review templates at some point in the
      vaguely not too distant future.

They are? I wanna get in on that guest-reviewer action! You should have an article on this guest-reviewing subject, we’re all excited! We need details. Templates? Guidelines? Procedures, and protocols…

        Tell us what’s off-limits, and what’s up for grabs, we’ll do this civilised-like : )

    • Re: Brannon Braga Bites

      Wait, we can do that?

Sure, I Sent One In For Constantine. (I Even Managed To type like a normal person for almost the entire review!)

How do you think I got authorship for the Doctor Who reviews? :-)

Slightly psychic paper… wait, you mean there’s another way?

  2. Why does everyone want my job?

Enterprise is on it’s way out, I’d like to wrap this up, if I may. In the meantime, if you want a series to review, try snagging one of the several unclaimed shows (either Stargate series for example). Plus networks should be naming their future fall failures (sorry did I say that out loud) any day now.

No, I’m not being paranoid, and no I’m not taking my tin foil hat off. It’s all the rage you know?

Is anyone interested in reviewing Lost?

      • Re: Why does everyone want my job?

Is anyone interested in reviewing Lost?

Did someone say there was a template for reviews? I’m not sure I’m insightful enough to do a good review, but I do watch lost regularly, so I can give it a shot if no one else wants it…

I watch both of these shows… and I’d be happy to write reviews. Who would I talk to?

Feel free to email me at [my nickname]@yahoo.com

I would like to see reviews of SGSG1 and SGA. Two shows that are just as good as BSG and being neglected here.

    • Re: Why does everyone want my job?
Because revenge is a dish best reviewed coldly…

(that’s revenge on the crappy B&B writting BTW)

  3. Paramount is the evil one
So it seems that the new brass at Paramount is now anti-trek. Maybe they should sell out the rights to the SCIFI channel.

    • Re: Paramount is the evil one

So it seems that the new brass at Paramount is now anti-trek. Maybe they should sell out the rights to the SCIFI channel.

No offence but I am not convinced that SCI-Fi actually has genre interests at heart. Canceling Farscape to me was the first sign that their brass just didn’t get it.

Now granted BSG does kick ass and so far there doesn’t seem to be a massive re-tooling on the horizon, but out of a seven night week there is only one night dedicated to decent television.

I know that original programming is expensive, but instead of rehashing the same stupid monster movie every week why don’t they replay classic sci-fi shows:
      Doctor Who (new and classic)
      Blake 7
      Space 1999
The Prisoner (Which I am willing to write a detailed review)
      Red Dwarf
      And many many many more

Purchasing classic shows has to be cheaper than original programming, and would fill time slots. Then sprinkle in say one original program M-F then I would seriously consider watching far more programming on their network.

      But hey, that’s just me.

      • Re: Paramount is the evil one

… but instead of rehashing the same stupid monster movie every week why don’t they replay classic sci-fi shows:

What? You didn’t enjoy MANSQUITO ? LOL.

I just about sprayed my soda at the TV when I saw the promo for that…and the Title was revealed at the promo end.

Great recommendations there on the old but good series. I especially would love to see them run Red Dwarf & Space 1999, instead of some of the other Horror B-movie waste they show now.

I wonder why they don’t just spin-off a Horror channel.

        • Re: Paramount is the evil one

I wonder why they don’t just spin-off a Horror channel.

The Cartoon network seems to have done things the right way. The main network has turned in to an area where we have fresh and original programming. And Boomerang as a channel devoted completely to “classics”.

Now granted producing animation is FAR cheaper than producing live action, there is a wealth of 60 or so years of television out there that many people in my generation have never actually seen.

Every few weeks or months or so I read some snippit with some Sci-Fi VEEP complaining of dwindeling viewership and not enough to keep advertisers happy. I wonder who we have to hit over the head to say “Hey if you put better shows on more people would watch.” Just a though.

I think your idea of a “Cheesy Horror Network” would be a better place to show this type of material.

  4. Durr, I’m dumb…
Maybe it’s me for not grasping the byzantine layout, but where’s a link to teh story mentioned? I Can’t find it. :)

Hehe… it’s not you …the link on the page is semi-obscured… tucked below an ad… which links to an article scan… at scifi universe.

Couple of hoops, with the jumping… but it’s there. :)

Go up to the top of this report where it says, "shayward writes, A TGL report here has a quote from…"

Notice how "here" is green? It’s a hyperlink. Give it a click and it should take you over to the TGL report.
