David Tennant Is The New Doctor Who!

cabrubak writes, Outpost Gallifrey is reporting that David Tennant is the 10th Doctor. I had several friends that were hoping somehow that Paul McGann would be the one, but I\’m ready for some nChristopherew blood. (Not that I wouldn\’t mind Christopher Eccleston staying past his planned regeneration).

  1. Regeneration
I assume they are going to film a regeneration sequence. Does anyone know if there are plans to go back and show the regeneration to Chris?

A friend of mine who isn’t a Doctor Who fan asked me what’s going to happen when they run out of regenerations I told him that the great thing about the Doctor Who universe is that there are many ways to work around it. Depending on how they resolve the time war, my guess is that the white gaurdian will grant the doctor a new round of regenerations so that he can go back and fix the time stream.

Then again that’s just my 2 cents.

I personally want to see them deal with the whole The Watcher + 4th Doctor = 5th Doctor. That was a cool episode (Logopolis, IIRC), and I’d love to see them do something with it.

As far as I’ve heard, they will be filming a proper regeneration sequence – not in so many words, but there have been enough hints dropped about doing the changeover properly that I think it’ll all be sorted. I would say that the main problem will be adaping the series two scripts to the new Doctor, but since they knew Ecclestone was probably leaving all along, they may already have taken that into account with the scriptwriters.

What I’m now trying to figure out is why I didn’t post this story myself a few days ago when the news first broke. Not used to being able to, I guess :-)

The nice thing about a show with time travel as it’s main premise is that you don’t need to worry about conitunity. The Doctor says as much throughout the series, even tho he tries hard not to mess with history.

Granted continuity is less of an issue than say with Star Trek, but there is something to be said for following you own rules. Time Lords have 12 regenerations (established in the Tom Baker era). This was probably done simply “We need a number, not that big.” Figuring that the series would never take on the life that it actually has. I don’t mind if they give the doctor more regenerations (hell I’d love to see the show continue on forever) I just want to see it done within the confines of rules established for the series.

I was under the impression that the 12 limit was something of a cultural/legal one for TimeLords. Not a technological one. So with the other TimeLords out of the picture, there would be no one to punish the Doctor for extra regenerations.

Perhaps it is designed into the nano-tech, but some technojiggery could redesign that.

Or if he happens to save Gallifrey, they might reward him with extra lifes, especially if he were to loose one in the process.

So… If You Finish The 9th/10th Level, You Get A 1Up?

I don’t think they’ll go too far into the show’s past if it comes down to running out of regenerations, but you could say that the 2nd one doesn’t count as the Time Lord’s triggered it. Also, they seem to offer the Master a free one in the ‘Five Doctors.’

  2. He’s only getting a half a million pounds for this …
I compare that to the signing deals commanded by American actors who step into choice roles … I’d bet Scott Bakula made/makes at least three to four times that per year, not even for a special character, just for a starring role in a known franchise.

A half million pounds. That’s astonishing.
