Firefly Webcomic

Not for all tastes.

y42 writes, Nothing much, just a Firefly-trailer themed cartoon over at penny-arcade. Its profanity-laden humour had me in stiches. And we can discuss River’s surprisingly delicious nature, as well as what measures we find acceptable when dealing with people who like to start a description of a movie with the biggest spoiler that comes to their loathesome mind…

  1. Cool to see….
Their “article” page talks about it. The Sneak Preview also made the front page of Slashdot, since it sold out within minutes in some locations. Good to see that.

  2. Describe this movie
Yanno, this is one of the most annoying things about my sisters, and a lot of the girls I’ve dated. At the risk of starting a flameing, is it a girl thing? Because no matter how hard I try to get them interested in a movie, any movie, they start grilling me about the plot to the point that I pretty much just act the thing out for them. And then they decide whether or not to go see it. At that point why bother, you already know who does what, any suspense is totally blown. Any attempts on my part to keep some mystery to the thing are met with scorn and anger, like I’m hiding sh*t from them just to be an a**hole or something. WTF??

Second on the list is when you sit down to watch a movie with someone that neither of you have seen before and they start asking you what’s going to happen next. Did I write the screenplay??

Is the 30-second-show-all-the-best-bits-and-give-away-the-plot-in-the-commercial promotions most movies get the cause or the effect of this?

I hate to say this but I think it’s a female thing. My wife would kill me if she read this post but then again she is the prime example for it. Sitting there watching a movie she always starts to ask “Who is that?” or “Why did she do that?” and on.

Now even though I’ve got a fairly honed plot-sense and my wife knows it, my stock response these days is “I don’t know, keep watching.”

I had a friend who would never shut up during a movie, and keep asking those question, and whine that things had not been properly explain. Except that, they were, when he was busy chatting and not paying attention to the explanation.
That’s one of the reasons I don’t see him anymore, there’s such a thing as not listening and accepting the consequences, but not listening and blaming THEM for not saying the things you actively refrained from listening to… that’s… just… dumb.
