Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 25 January 2020

The Judoon return to Doctor Who this week, bringing back a fan favorite rhinoceros-headed aliens.  Elsewhere in space, Picard continues to try to solve the mystery of Data’s daughter.  The Midwives are called to make a case for home service for births (instead of hospitals,) as well.  That’s just the start of this week’s shows.  Are you unable to cope with the Deluge?  Can’t keep up with all of these shows?  Good news, one of them is going away!  Arrow airs its finale this week, bringing eight years to a close for the show that started one of the most successful runs of DC properties in video.  Batwoman’s birthday even takes a back seat, Supergirl brings a season one star back, all the other heroes are still to busy to stop by Freeland to help their new friend Black Lightning, and the Legends skip this week to make room for a special set of postmortem interviews with Arrow creators.  Elsewhere, Archie Comics give us another episode of Riverdale, and the next season of Sabrina is still hanging out if you have more time to hang out in the Bureau’s Breakroom.

  1. Doctor Who was amazingly packed. I can’t wrap my brain around everything that we got. It’s obviously a lot of seeding for future story, and I can’t wait to get to it.

    • Yeah. At one point, I was like, no, it can’t be. Maybe? Sounds like…nah, they wouldn’t…damn! They did!

There was one reveal I *half* saw coming, but also thought, nah, they wouldn’t do that. Turns out they did. And they went even further. And *that* was a brain bender.

Here’s hoping they stick the landing.

      • I was starting to get an inkling too, but the reveal in the exhumation pretty much sealed the deal – no doubts after that. The later “Who goes first?” discussions also seemed to set up a rather obvious potential for forked timeline scenario for the overarching season plot setup with The Master and Gallifrey. I have a feeling that the landing is going to be everything for this season, so here’s hoping they don’t essentially just go with a simple “reset” with no repercussions.

        • I’ll have the review up later this morning.

so here’s hoping they don’t essentially just go with a simple “reset” with no repercussions.

          I wouldn’t be too hopeful, but it’s a great set-up.

        • I think the idea that The Master was the one who destroyed Gallifrey makes me think that he caused a forked timeline, and Gat’s warning about two versions meeting being catastrophic enough to cause serious damage means that The Master engineered it so that The Doctors meet up again on Gallifrey and the result destroys it. It’d be just like The Master to use the Doctor as an extra knife twist to her.

          (Speculation, not spoilers)

Also, just to complain: Google News’ algorithm throws serious spoilers up, in the headlines, at the very top of my morning feed. This isn’t the first time, either. *shakes an old curmudgeonly fist at Google and yells at The Cloud.*

  2. Sabrina’s recent season (I think it was the first half of season 2, but I am not sure…) was great. I loved how they made distinctions between different witches, and they seemed to shift from Satanic Witches, leaving Pagan Witches aside, and instead of having the “hero” worship the most popular bad guy in modern religion, they shifted them to a relatively innocuous ancient deity (Hecate). This season did seem to go a lot more “Teenage Witch” than I was expecting. By the end I even seemed to get Buffy vibes, making me wish we could get a crossover somehow.
