Man, the average day in the marketing department must be pretty dull… They describe this new logo like it’s nuclear powered, cures cancer, and makes better Apple Pie than Mom.

I’ve got news for you guys. It’s just a logo. Nobody pays any attention to it. The people buying your comics buy them, believe it or not, to read the content inside the cover, not for the exciting tiny logo in the corner.

    Sheesh.

Here are some highlights from their mastebatory press release:

    > [the new logo] is both a face lift and a marketing strategy
    > we weren’t fully utilizing the power of DC
    > [the new logo] highlights DC Comics’ ambitious media plans for the future
    > [the new logo] represents the latest step in Warner Bros. Entertainment and Time Warner’s commitment to maximize the value and exposure of DC Comics
    > [the new logo] is a statement that the DC brand is a strategic asset and vital tool
    > [with our new logo] we’re inviting our fans in all media to continue to count on the DC brand …

I’m sure the fans are THRILLED… but guys… its just the letters “DC” with a circle and tiny star around it.

Now if the new logo was 32 pages long and had an exciting story and some good artwork it might be interesting.

Sounds pretty typical of a marketing department. Like managers, they grossly overestimate their own importance. They are both convinced that they are the sole reason for a business surviving, yet were they to disappear mysteriously, hardly anybody would notice. The rest of us would carry on just fine.

I was seriously considering changing the title to “New DC logo nuclear powered, cures cancer, and makes better Apple Pie than Mom!”

hmm, while the logo may not be much of anything special, I did notice one small tidbit of info in the article that I wasn’t aware of. V for Vendetta the movie. Scheduled for release two weeks before Harry Potter (Nov 4) and starring Natalie Portman, James Purefoy, Stephen Rea
