As reported by BBC News Online, and previously rumoured elsewhere, Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) is unlikely to appear in all of series two of Doctor Who. Just how many episodes she will be in has yet to be determined as the storylines for the series are still being worked on.
A new doc already?
I didn’t know they were changing Doctors. What’s the scoop? Any helpful links would be appreciated.
Re: A new doc already?
Chris Ecclestone “didn’t want to be typecast”; some links:
here,
here, here and here.
Personally, I don’t think that Chris has exactly delivered all that he is capable of in the role, where as Billie Piper has done a far better job than I was expecting. I’ll miss Billie more than Chris, especially if David Tennant can bring half the manic enthusiasm to “Dr. Who” that he brought to “Casanova”.
Re: A new doc already?
I’m looking forward to a new Doctor… I’m not sure that Ecclestone’s
performance (wonderful though it is) can be sustained in a meaningful
manner over numerous seasons. David Tenant should be interesting. I hope
they go for a personality change and not try and make him into a duplicate of
the Ninth Doctor. I’m sure they won’t, but one can never quite entirely trust in
these matters.
Re: A new doc already?
This site needs some kind of tag-closing automation : )
Re: A new doc already?
You write it, I’ll upload it. :-)
(Seriously, if you’re fairly friendly with PHP, there’s a bloody lot of things here that could use improvement. Why I didn’t just go with phpBB or something like that years ago, beats me. I suppose I thought that writing my own stuff would be fun or something. It was at the time, but then your code enters the dreaded maintenance-and-upkeep phase that nobody enjoys, including me.)
Re: A new doc already?
I like this format far more than phpBB. It makes following a conversation much easier. All thats needed for improvement is something that helps you find new posts that you havn’t read yet.
Re: A new doc already?
The “site stats” link on the left includes direct links to
the twenty most recent comments. It won’t tie in directly
to the comment you last read, nor will it help if we get
one of those really popular stories that get more than that
in the span of a few hours when most of us can’t afford to
be online the entire time, but it’s a start.
Re: A new doc already?
It has one. The button is marked “Preview”. ;)
Re: A new doc already?
You’d think that’s be enough…
Well, actually, if you don’t close link tags it… links when you click “preview”. Hey, what about simply putting a </a> before the “preview”? That might be a short and sweet awnser to this issue : )
Re: A new doc already?
It is a sign of something, I’m not sure exactly of what, but when the second cast member of a two cast show decides to leave and the only comments generated are on the layout of the content management, it’s a sign of something alright.
Re: A new doc already?
Thing is, Dr Who has the background of the Doctor and his companion changing, so it doesn’t get me too worried about the show surviving or anything like that. It does make me wonder if maybe life on the set isn’t happy rainbows and sunshine.
Re: A new doc already?
It could also be a sign of actors these days… or any profession. 40 years ago you stuck it out in the same job or, if you were a TV actor, in the same show because that’s just how it was.
Today, people feel much more free to do whatever they wish. Life on the set sounds hectic but nothing out of the ordinary for a show like Doctor Who.
It’s the ciiiIIIIIIRCle of LIIIiiiiiife
Well, I was going to say something useless on the lines of “Awwww! But she’s hooooot! Don’t leave!”, but I got sidetracked by the bug : )
What can we say? She’s good at her role and everything, but she can be replaced. After all, she’s replacing someone, who replaced someone, who replaced someone…
Doctor Who Acting Etc
Although Rose has been the constant travelling companion this episode , there have been others for more than one episode.
Aditionally the writing and acting at times has been more emotionally intense than I remember from the Pertwee Days that I grew up with.
Rose is certainly more than a female ‘assistant’ , capable of holding her own at times , intenless fearful when in tricky dangerours situations and a mix of knowledge and ignorance of facts and situations ( basically a fairly typical state school educated london girl ).
The only fault I really find with this season is too many one-sentance utterings of the Doctor , particuly because of the brevity of the time allowed for the viewer to gain understanding of ‘new’ situations / events / monsters, and partially because of a need to educate ‘new’ viewers to some 40 years of Doctor Who gadegtry and old adversaries.
The Police Box explaination gets a bit tired after a while ( though it worked well in Boomtown ) ( we still have an example outside a police station in Leeds ( although I thought yorkshire police forces had larger green ones ( incidentally the City of London Police retained their smaller light blue telephone call points up to the present time ) .
The Comedy has been very good too – even the Anne Robinson / Weakest Link from last nights episode being difficult for any satire to top )
