📺 Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 May 24

The seasons have actually closed for most of the CW’s winter favorites, leaving us with one Debutante Covering the slightly-less-silly content.  Stargirl finds out her own history in her second episode, while the Legends abandon any pretense of not being the “meta” show, and the TV characters are thrown into TV shows.  Hopefully, Mick lands in John Doe and we get a satisfying conclusion to that series.  Meanwhile, the House of Ideas debuts the finale season of its debut MCU show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  This season promises to give us some returns of Agent Carter characters while the agents are trapped in the age of men wearing excellent fedoras.  In non-comic-based unbelievable shows, the Blindspot team deals with betrayal both in their headquarters and the FBI’s.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any.  (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…)]

Stargirl – S01E02 – S.T.R.I.P.E. – After Courtney has an unexpected run-in with a member of the Injustice Society of America, Pat reveals the truth to her about their history. Meanwhile, Barbara is elated when she sees Courtney making an attempt to get along with Pat, not knowing the secret they’ve been keeping. Finally, things take a dangerous turn at Blue Valley High’s open house night when Courtney becomes the target of a dangerous foe.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – S05E14 – The One Where We’re Trapped on TV – After Charlie does the one thing that goes against her nature when it comes to her sisters, she tries to protect the Legends by scattering them in different television shows. Of course, in true Legends style some can’t just be blissfully ignorant and happy but figure out a way to end up messing with the system.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – S07E01 – The New Deal – Coulson and the agents are thrust backward in time and stranded in 1931 New York City. With the all-new Zephyr set to time-jump at any moment, the team must hurry to find out exactly what happened.

Blindspot – S05E03 – Existential Ennui – When an op goes bad, the team must deal with a proverbial monster in their house before it can take them down one by one. Meanwhile, Director Weitz is forced into a tense game of psychological chess as Madeline Burke attempts to assess his loyalty and root out a potential mole at the FBI.

  1. They have announced we will see Agent Sousa from Agent Carter, but I strongly suspect we will get some Agent Peggy Carter appearance before the show ends. (I have trouble remembering Enver Gjokaj’s name, but to me he’s always going to be Victor.)

I doubt we’ll see Mockingbird, since she went on and got a new show, but I still kinds hope that Disney+ picks her up for that Most Wanted spin-off, maybe even turning it into a Hawkeye and Mockingbird show, but that’s probably a reach.

  2. Legends was interesting. In true Legends fashion, they have created even more chaos. I wonder if the green mush is going to turn out to be people? (Of course, for a proper homage to that, they have to wait for correct timing.) And what’s up with Gary? I’m starting to think he might be more than he seems to be given how he manages to get mixed up in things and hasn’t managed to die yet.

  3. Stargirl didn’t get much better. It feels like “Comic Book” is a genre, and this is the filler that DC is using to pad their library. It’s about the level of a Lifetime movie, except instead of Romantic Comedy, it’s Comic Book.

Legends was absurd, but still a lot of fun. No sign of John Doe, unfortunately. This seemed like this seasons version of the Crossover skipping episode.

  4. Agents of SHIELD was awesome. It was great to see them back, they quipped wonderfully, they were epic, funny, and even gave me my new favorite Comic Book Physics theory for how people can time travel without ruining the world. (We are like sticks in a time-stream. Throw a few sticks in, they are just carried downstream and all the water still goes to the same place. Throw enough sticks in, it creates a dam and changes how the water flows.)
