📺 Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 June 14

Some new shows make the Television Table this week, as fan-favorite Doctor David Tennant and his angelic costar Michael Sheen join us for a Lockdown-produced show, Staged, and Penny Dreadful spins off to Los Angels to examine white supremacist cops and how they deal with minorities in the city.  (While the timing would be suspect, this was produced, filmed, and began airing before America’s headlines turned to the subject.  Additionally, there’s demons involved.)  In much more lighthearted shows, the Diversly Cast new JSA is brought together in Stargirl.  The SHIELD agents continue their trek through the fifties.  Meanwhile, Blindspot gets Ice Cream.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any.  (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…)]

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels – S01E08 – Hide and Seek – Lewis confronts Townsend in his office and Tiago questions Adelaide, where he discovers Josefina is now a member of the Sister Molly’s congregation. Rio implores Mateo to forget his old family and embrace her and the Pachucos. Peter visits Linda at the asylum, only to find her ready for war. Townsend and Kurt go on a dangerous outing, while Peter Craft argues with members of the German-American Bund. In the Craft home, Frank terrorizes Tom and Trevor as Maria fights to protect them from the demonic child.

Stargirl – S01E05 – Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite – As Courtney sets her sights on recruiting more members to the Justice Society of America, Pat finds himself one step closer to learning which ISA members may be in Blue Valley. Meanwhile, a search for Rick leads Courtney, Yolanda and Beth to Cindy Burman’s Halloween party.

Staged – S01E03 – Who The F#!k is Michael Sheen? – An actor who was initially involved in the play, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, comes back to haunt the production. Georgia has sold her novel, and tells Anna that she’s due to be a birthing partner for her friend. Michael is being blackmailed by his neighbour.

Staged – S01E04 – Bara Brith – Michael and David are finding it hard to regain each other’s trust. The show’s producer, Jo, steps in to try and repair the damage. Meanwhile Michael gets drawn deeper into the situation with his neighbour. David is nervous about Georgia leaving to go off and help her friend in labour.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – S07E04 – Out of the Past – It was just another average morning on July 22, 1955, when Agent Phil Coulson realized the importance of that day in the S.H.I.E.L.D. history books. With a chip on his shoulder and a genre-bending glitch in his system, he’d set into motion a chain of events that would hopefully preserve the timeline as we know it and ensure those pesky chronicoms get the ending they deserve.

Blindspot – S05E06 – Fire & Brimstone – When Ice Cream, the Icelandic fixer, returns to collect his debt, the team is forced into a life-and-death race around the world to solve a series of puzzles and recover the infamous stolen Gardner paintings.

  1. My wife and I watched all six of Staged yesterday. There were some surprise guest appearances, but over all, it was wonderful! The fact that they did it all while in Lockdown was good, but David and Michael’s ability to act the hell out of everything is what really makes it good. I highly recommend it, especially because it isn’t very long.

  2. Agents of SHIELD was great! I loved their trick to make it into a true Noir piece, and I felt so bad for Enoch. I was sure they’d come back for him, and I was really upset they didn’t swing out and pick him up.
