Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 June 21

We have a few new options this week, as The Twilight Zone drops season two, and Doom Patrol returns for its second season as well.  Stargirl brings together the entire Justice Society for a Doom/Celestial two punch, but an animated Spider-Man gives us a Venom story to go with the SHIELD Agents’ action in the seventies so we actually have an equal amount of series from the Big Two.  Penny Dreadful spends a night out on the town in LA, while David and Michael finish their homework in Staged.  If you can’t see enjoying any of that, Blindspot has two planefuls of memory eraser to help.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any.  (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click More…)]

Marvel’s Spider-Man – S03E03 – Vengeance of Venom – Symbiotes from space send an advanced hunting party to Earth to take out all of the superheroes; Spider-Man must team up with Marc Spector and Max Modell to save the planet.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels – S01E09 – Sing, Sing, Sing – In danger, Tiago and Lewis must make bold decisions. With Townsend at the end of his rope, he’s forced to turn to a last resort. Spurred by Elsa, Peter decides to take Tom, Trevor and Frank to the movies. Lewis oversees the prison transfer of Diego Lopez as Tiago and Molly go dancing at the Crimson Cat, where they confront the rest of the Vega family.

Stargirl – S01E06 – The Justice Society – Courtney makes a difficult decision after Pat confronts her about the consequences of recruiting new members to the JSA. Barbara shows up in support of Mike’s science fair. Courtney, Yolanda, Beth and Rick prepare for their first major mission.

Staged – S01E05 – Ulysses – Simon brings in an old friend to try and convince David and Michael to put their faith in him. David has managed to stay afloat in Georgia’s absence.

Staged – S01E06 – The Cookie Jar – Jo drafts in the voice of experience to get Michael and David in line. Georgia has shared David’s work without him knowing. Michael seeks resolution on what has happened to his neighbour. David is pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response his work receives.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – S07E05 – A Trout in the Milk – After a bumpy landing in the disco decade, the team – Daniel Sousa in tow – reunites with more than one familiar face at the S.H.I.E.L.D. hangout and discovers exactly how to dismantle the Chronicoms’ latest plan. But when they get too close for comfort, the Zephyr unexpectedly leaps forward again, this time to a date pivotal to not only the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. but to the future of Director Mack as well.

The Twilight Zone – S02 – Jordan Peele hosts and narrates a revival of the series which began in 1959 and explores tales of people confronted with the mysterious unexplored regions of the fifth dimension — that place that is everywhere, yet nowhere, the ground between all that is known and what is beyond understanding — a place known as “The Twilight Zone.”

Doom Patrol – S02E01 – Fun Size Patrol – [No description given.]

Blindspot – S05E07 – Awl In – In an effort to stop Madeline from shipping two planes full of ZIP to the US, the team splits up into a high-stakes undercover mission and intercepts Madeline’s son. Meanwhile, Madeline interrogates an old ally to get information on Kurt and the team.

  1. There was also a new reboot of Perry Mason, but I didn’t include it here since it isn’t really Sci-Fi. After watching Penny Dreadful and Agents of SHIELD, I am weirded out that everything was visiting that time period.

    • Perry Mason was very serialized. They didn’t give us a lot of the pieces you need to formulate a theory on what the mystery is, but that is kinda refreshing.
