Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “For my pick of the week, if you have a way to play 4K disks, I’d recommend picking up the new release of Spartacus.” Blaine says, “I also advocate for Spartacus if you have 4K technology, and can also recommend the Paramount Presents editions of Ghost and Airplane!.”
Mephisto is not related to the Marvel Character, as far as I could see.
I did see Scoob! It wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was over my “I want my hour and a half back!” bar.
I saw that back in the 1980s, and remember being impressed. It concerns an actor in Nazi Germany who accepts the role of Mephisto in the story of Faust. The premise may be obvious enough, but it is terrifically handled, and applicable to situations seemingly far-removed from the Third Reich.
American Experience‘s Take on Dubya is surprisingly tame, Room isn’t sadly, the Emma Donoghue novel adaptation I was thinking of (which is excellent), but it looks interesting. And I recall Reality Bitess being a passable look at irresponsible, aimless twentysomethings. However, I saw it when it came out, and little of it has stayed with me. The Big Gulp scene, I suppose. Apparently, when the first-time screenwriter spoke with the higher ups, they had no idea what a Big Gulp was. She took that as a measure of how well they knew the intended audience, that is, not at all. She’s been working for TV since.
Surely, we’ve all seen Airplane!
I swear Airplane! gets funnier every time I watch it. I think I spot something new.
And, if you like gladiator movies, Spartacus is excellent.
Frasier is my go-to for a witty sitcom.
