Another calm summer week, Stargirl takes on Brainwave’s son, Brainwave, and the Doom Patrol start taking stupid pills. Perry Mason introduces us to his son and ex-wife. The Agents continues their victory lap season by visiting their past failures, and Blindspot didn’t actually end with the last episode as expected, but we get a series finale this week.

Stargirl – S01E10 – Brainwave Jr. – As Henry Jr. hones his newfound skills, secrets from his family’s past force him to make a difficult decision. Tensions between Pat and Barbara have her revisit her own past.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – S07E09 – As I Have Always Been – A time storm ravages the Zephyr, propelling it toward destruction while simultaneously forcing Daisy and Coulson to relive their failed attempts to save the team over and over, until they find a solution or are swallowed by the storm. Making it to their next destination will take trust, courage and sacrifice from everyone on board, but it will all come down to having enough time.
Doom Patrol – S02E07 – Dumb Patrol – While Niles heads north to find Dorothy’s mother, the Doom Patrol embraces their inner morons after receiving a mysterious package.
Blindspot – S05E11 – Iunne Ennui – Turn off your mind relax and float down stream…it is not dying…it is not dying.
Well, I cannot wait for this week’s Doom Patrol.
Stargirl wasn’t bad. It seems like Stargirl’s mom might be a voice of reason, like a strange and wonderful visitor to the Golden Age. (Also, apparently she’s two years older than me, when I thought she was at least a decade or two younger. Hollywood!!!! *shares his fist*) Also, we get some steps towards the obvious reveal we have been waiting for since Stargirl decided she was Starman’s daughter without any evidence at all.
Perry Mason seems to be hitting its stride as well, which is too bad. I’ve always liked John Lithgow, and the idea that the show gets better without him is a bit disheartening.
Welp, Enoch took bold action. In a perfectly understated way. And that led to what is, I think, one of the best scenes in the entire series.
On the other hand, I think the mechanics of this week’s time loop (not a spoiler – it was in the trailer) might be important for the finale. No doubt the producers have taken a different direction, but what if the “considerable amount” of time that Simmons spent setting up the time drive, etc., was in a time loop? What if this season is just the latest (last?) iteration of a much larger scale loop? I’m basing that on some things on screen like the time drive having a spot perfectly sized for Enoch’s “heart”, or Enoch’s comment about having seen the future.
I’m also expecting a literal “Fitz ex machina”. (And, yes, I do mean *literal*.)
(Anyone else think they were heavily implying a trip to the quantum realm if they didn’t fix the time drive? That wouldn’t even require that Shield be in the same timeline as the main MCU. I expect that Word of God will insist otherwise, of course.)
Yeah, Enoch got my wife teary-eyed. (Reports of other viewers in our house being choked up have not been confirmed.)
As for timelines and such, I like your theory, but I suspect that with the discussion of the Russo Brothers discussing Secret Wars, Doctor Strange going into a Multiverse of Madness, and a desire to merge vaguely connected things like the X-Men timelines and Netflix shows, they may decide that it is fractured, has been fractured, and you just couldn’t tell.
I can see them going the “it has always been fractured” route. In fact, it makes sense because it automatically fixes continuity problems between different projects without having to do much. After all, with a multiverse and multiple timelines, there’s absolutely no reason there can’t be universes that are close enough to look like the same one from a distance. Also, we already know they split the timeline in Infinity War and Shield has already done the same with their future trip.
Plus, we could get a fun sequence of Coulson-bot going to his grave and explaining to Cap and Tony that he didn’t die. Well, he did, but they brought him back. Then he died.. and came back and …
In the middle we get interrupted by Tony pulling up a clearly not-faked picture of the corpse. (IE, we are now in the MCU, Where Coulson actually did die, and us Agents of SHIELD watchers have been watching a different universe this entire time but didn’t know.)
That would be an awesome scene. Those three actors could really make it work. Alas, it won’t happen.
