TV Writers Officially Back On The Job

The Writers Guild of America just officially ratified their new contract (last mentioned here almost a month ago). They get more money than I’ll ever have. Full story on Yahoo. The Screen Actors Guild doesn’t yet have their new contract, so the summer may be weird yet.

I hadn’t noticed any change in the quality of the writing, since they were gone.

Frankly, I stick to my DVDs of British shows when I feel the need for a SitCom or other type of TV show. Most of the popular stuff on American TV was conscripted from the Brits anyway (Whose Line Is It, Anyway?, Millionaire, Weakest Link, All In The Family). They even do Soap Operas better over there (the story lines end once in a while, unlike here, where you can drop off a Soap for months and step right into the same story line when you tune in again).

Blah, blah, TV is the opiate of the masses/last refuge of the incompetent/homogenizer of society/etc.

They hadn’t actually left… IIRC, their old contract ends later this month, and they’d been negotiating for a new one. Besides, even if they’d taken a holiday, the (lack of) scripts wouldn’t have affected things until the fall.
