Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “If you have a way to watch 4K films, the 4K release of Mad Max from Kino Lorber is worth picking up. Otherwise, I’m going with the Blu-Ray release of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” Blaine says, “of those I’ve seen, Monty Python’s Flying Circus is my top pick. I’ve also been hearing wonderful things about Cobra Kai, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.”
I will second the wonderful things about Cobra Kai, it has been excellent.
Those sound like solid choices, though I only know Cobra Kai by reputation. I would also really like to see Babylon Berlin. Wonder Boys is not bad. Although I genuinely admire Michael Chabon’s work, this plays like an occasionally inventive variant of some middle-age guy’s stock fantasy.
Finally, I think we can all appreciate the irony of a film called Tourist Trap having a negative reputation.
Kiss Me Kate is a fun musical, if that’s your jam. I think I’ve seen this version (from 2003) on PBS and it was very good. The less said about the awful 1953 version, the better.
