Weekly Comics Discussion – August 3, 2005

This
week’s shipping list includes a few items of note,
such as Serenity #2 (which will get its own
review, but I’ll be out of town for the weekend, so it
won’t be right away), and New Avengers #8
(which continues the Sentry arc.) Also
shipping today are the first issue of the
1602 sequel (which Gaiman is not involved in;
I’m waiting for reviews before I decide if I’ll get
the TPB), some House of M tie-in material,
Ultimate Spider-Man #81, Marvel
Visionaries: John Romita Sr., and New
Avengers Vol. 1: Breakout (which I also need to
review; shaky start to the arc, but it pulls itself
together as a means to launch the series). DC is
offering The Return of Donna Troy #3 (of 4),
DC’s Greatest Imaginary Stories TPB,
Justice #1 (of 12), and Sandman Presents
Thessaly: Witch for Hire in TPB form.

    I got #2, still can’t find #1.

    Do I dare read it now, or will I ever have enough self-controll to wait until I finally find #1?

      Issue #1 is going back to the presses, and should be
      available before #3 hits the shelves. How long are you
      willing to wait?

        Ah, that’s great news! I got issue 2, I’ll keep it in it’s plastic cover until then I guess.

  2. Sandman Presents
    So what are the “Sandman Presents” books like? I’ve seen a couple around, but… They’re just various random mystery stories, right? Good stuff?

    Also, which “Sandman” is doing the presenting? I believe it’s one of two: either Neil Gaimon’s Sandman, or the costumed hero set in the 1930s (I think) who puts people to sleep with his gas gun… And does the creator of the associated series have anything to do with “Sandman Presents”?

    Yeah, I could look this stuff up, but this way I get to hear it with commentary from people I’ve read. :)

  3. Justice #1

    Any thoughts on the Justice comic from those who’ve read it? The guy at my comic store really tried hard to get me to buy it—said it was going to be a really good series.
