Movie Discussion: Stealth

nkuzmik
writes, Just saw Thursday night. While I wasn’t
expecting much other than a rewrap of a familiar man
v. machine-out-of-control story, paired with flying
that would make Maverick and Ice wet themselves I was
pleasantly surprised. I totally did not expect them
to go in the direction they did.
Not having seen
it myself, I’m not sure which direction nkuzmik is
referring to. Is it possible that this movie has more
going for it than the ads would indicate?

I have also heard it’s not what the trailers are making it out to be(lightning hitting machine making it go crazy). Still… this is a rental *cough*

As a plot device, I feel the lightening was not needed. The primary reason for the lightening strike was to put Tin Man in the shop for a few days, giving the Talon Pilots a few days R&R and giving us a scrumptious view of Jessica Beil in a bikini… Okay, maybe the ligthening was important.

But they do take the story in a direction I have never seen a man v. machine film take.

So could you give a bit more detail on that? Perhaps use the tags if you think they’re necessary.

FYI, this post is going in a supertags because I can never remember how to do spoiler tags regularly.
As far as renting v. theater… I would say that it’s worthy of a matinee ticket. As far as the spoilers tag…

The plot:Instead of just have Tin Man go crazy, they have Tin Man learn. At first he learns some things that lead him to fly off on his own, but they he learns self-preservation, remorse, loyalty, and ultimately self-sacrifice.

I didn’t want to go too deep into the movie, but that should give you a bit of a feel for it.

Thanks, that was deep enough to be quite useful without giving away too much.

            Spoiler guarded question below.

Let me guess, the plane learns about a horrible neocon conspiracy and saves the Republic from a horribly stereotyped Hollywood version of Bush, Cheney or Rumsfeld. If so I’ll pass. Otherwise, sounds interesting and I guess I should catch it.

That might be nice… but no.

The finale has Gannon riding in the maintence seat of Tin Man, flying to the North/South Korean border to provide air cover for Wade as she tries to get into South Korea. After expending all their bombs and missiles, Gannon and Tin Man land(VTOL), Gannon gets out to help Wade along, when a North Korean Mi-24 Hind knock-off crests the ridge line. The chopper doesn’t pay any attention to Tin Man, maybe they don’t notice, and opens fire on Gannon and Wade. Tin Man, imediatly starts firing his guns, and taking off. This distracts the helo, which turns to fire on Tin Man, who is unable to bring his guns to bear before taking major damage, and ultimately rams the chopper to protect his squadronmates.

              Is that enough?

Boy, this sounds like the Home Fries previews vs. the actual movie. So you mean it’s not a robot goes mad and kills the humans but something else entirely?

Might actually be good then. Though I’ll rent because I have little kids and they’re also known as boat anchors when it comes to a social life.
