Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 Discussion

You must remember this:
A kiss is still a kiss.

With no one reviewing the show here from the U.S., and the Canadian preview hovering in the near future, we post yet another forum for those who are watching to discuss the show.

Spolieriffic… The last two episodes have been completely amazing. Everything I could hope for. Both were incredibly intense. I also like how the cylons are looking less like a faithful group with a plan and more like really disturbed creations of mankind trying (and failing, except for Boomer) to be more like their creators.

I also really liked how last week they just showed us a cylon without all the intrigue and paranoia. Except now that I am looking for him in scenes within the fleet. I thought I saw him in the press corps, but on closer inspection it wasn’t him. A cool reveal for a cylon anyway.

I expect next weeks show to be just as good at this week. I heavily suspect from the preview that Zarak’s assistant is a cylon, but my guess is that instead of Adama being shot by Boomer again (which would be super lame), she will shoot the other cylon at the last minute. I really belive that Boomer will fully betray the cylons, and I think Baltar will steal her baby for the cylons too. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

But season 2 is surpassing my expectations by a lot. And there were moments where I thought season 1 was a little shaky. But so far they’re hitting home runs every week.

I really liked The Farm episode, as you said the reveal of the cylon was well done. One thing I don’t get about the multiple versions though is that it seems they “download” into other bodies but why then did we see a bunch of Boomers with seemingly independent thoughts on the big ship and of course the double on Caprica?

Also it seems the human looking cylons rarely ever show their “super powers”, what’s up with that? There were many instances where a machine with super speed and strength would have been able to get out of some of those situations. And why are the walking toasters on the planet going down with regular gunfire shots when it was established that launchers were needed to take them down when they boarded Galactica?

I didn’t see the previews but I also think his assistant is a Cylon, he’s acting very manipulative and shifty. I don’t know why Boomer wouldn’t out him right away though unless all of this is part of the Cylon master plan rather than a prophecy. I haven’t been this excited about a show since Push Nevada :D

Yes, there are multiple copies, but I think that if one of those goes down, then the consciousness is downloaded to a spare. So, we have multiple Boomers floating around, and some spare Boomer husks ready as backups.
However I don’t think they are directly downloaded 1-to-1 into a new body. I would imagine they are downloaded into the Cylon Hive Mind first, and then recreated with the most recent intelligence of the group. (that’s what I would do)

There were many instances where a machine with super speed and strength would have been able to get out of some of those situations.

I vaguely remember that being mentioned last season, near the beginning. The human models need to appear as human as possible to remain undetected; if they had super powers it would show up in their genetic profiles (or something)

I didn’t see the previews but I also think his assistant is a Cylon, he’s acting very manipulative and shifty.

Sounds more like most humans I know rather than a cylon agent. I think the threat of "there are 8 cylons in the fleet" has us just as paranoid as Baltar. The assistant is a criminal, and he wants his boss to be #2 in command; he’s doing what he’s gotta do to get ahead.

We saw at least one exert super powers though, the blonde fighting Starbuck in the room with the arrow. I guess they can be choosy with the models that are infiltrating human society but that would be kinda contrived :x

Speaking of contrivances (sorry for the double post) what’s up with the implant into Starbuck? Felt like a cheap Deus Ex implant the writers can turn to if they need to fudge things. Was pretty dissapointed by how they handled it.

what’s up with the implant into Starbuck?

Who says there was an implant?

Consider the goal of the operators of that facility. Consult an anatomy chart…what small organs, that someone could live without, are located on the sides of the abdomen? I think it more likely something was taken out than put it.

Weird… I took it as she was artificially inseminated, the hard way. Guess that’s how the writers keep their options open.

Looks to me like one of her ovaries was removed.

I agree with J_W_W above, this show keeps getting better and better. I can’t WAIT til this Friday’s episode. :)
