Comments Blaine: I worked in a movie theatre when this came out. It’s terrible, and seemed to have been rushed out to get a “talking pig” movie on the market before the far superior Babe. In fact, a lot of our customers refused to give Babe a shot because of their experience with Gordy.

Finally, the picks of the week.
Alex says, “I watched Venus Wars a while back and remember liking it – and additionally anime of this vintage tends to gain a lot from a Blu-Ray release. If you’re not into anime – that isn’t a bad price for the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-Ray.” Blaine says, “while I entirely agree that this is a great price on Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s weakest season, I would put Amelie at the top of my list. It’s one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen, and I think would have been better served with a more accurate translation of the original French title: The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulin.”

  1. Not exactly a week for “genre,” but I see several excellent dramas and things worth watching: Doubt, Lady Sings the Blues (uneven script, but great performances), Trainspotting, and the bizarre but entertaining Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, among others. I don’t know that I would own any of these, however.

I know it’s a translated title, but I think it’s hilarious there’s a film called Naked Girl Murdered in the Park. How many crime dramas and true crime episodes might as well just have that title?
