Comments | Blaine: The only Roman Polanski movie I’ve ever seen. After seeing it for the first time, I jumped to Webcrawler and ran the name “Roman Polanski” through the search engine, and learned things that will stop me from watching and/or enjoying any Roman Polanski movie ever again. If an individual’s personal conduct ever impacts whether or not you consume their art, look into Polanski before offering monetary support to the individual. | ||||||||

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia is one of the Peckenpah movies which has always caught my interest by the title, but I’d never gotten around to actually watching. I should probably rectify that.” Blaine says, “nothing I’ve seen jumps out at me. Wait for a better week.”
I reviewed Rosemary’s Baby awhile back for the site, and addressed the controversy. The film (and the novel that inspired it) remain clever works of art, but I understand if someone chooses not to see it. I have not seen any of Polanski’s post-1971 films.
Nashville defies easy description, but is worth seeing. Altman’s best movies are like that. Harold and Maude does not appeal to all tastes, but you will at least see why it acquired its cult status. I like it a lot more than I ever thought I would. If you wanna sing out…
Speaking of dated artifacts, has anyone seen the remake of Alfie from this week’s list? The original is so much a piece of an era that I cannot imagine a remake working. Is the new one any good?
The original Alfie makes a great pairing with Georgy Girl, from the same year. They’re glimpses into a time and place and the relevant (and shifting) social attitudes.
(Oddball bonus: Georgy Girl references Doctor Who).
Harold and Maude is wonderfully… morbid.
