Battlestar Galactica Site News

Canada’s Space will not be running the second season of Battlestar Galactica until 2006, at which point, reviews may be a moot point for most readers here. So far, no one else has elected to do the reviews. So the question is….

…do we bother with reviews beginning in January ’06 or do we just continue to post discussions?

  1. Errgh…
    I know this is going to make me regret it but.. :}

I watch them religiously off of torrents the moment they are posted so… If you want I will attempt to do reviews.

If you want some examples I can run through the episodes already aired and review those.

    Man… why do I always volunteer… :}

Offtopic: Can one of you guys run some knifty SQL and change me from ‘Gaewyn’ to ‘Vaewyn’?

Changed that like 3 years ago elsewhere but never saw a place to do it here… oh well.. no time like the current :P

  2. Discussion is ok too
I think general discussion postings would fine too. I too wouldn’t mind doing reviews, but I know I will really rip into any Baltar/6 stuff, there was way to much of that in the middle of last year. In the middle of the podcast for last week they were patting themselves on the back about including a Baltar/6 bit, I was just thinking that oh, I wouldn’t have missed it if you left it out.

Ok, now that I’ve elaborated on my problem of quickly falling into anti-Baltar rants, I will get back on topic ;-).

For reviews is there some kind of template/howto for reviews. Another option is that if enough people are interested you could do a Galactica “Review Off” and have multiple reviews and pick the best one to be the reviewer.

Another question, though, how are you Canadians resisting the call of bittorrent for getting these episodes, I know I wouldn’t be able to.

      My reason: Unstable supply.

And my compy’s fried right now, but, that can’t be permanent… it… it can’t! It CAN’T!!!

Gotta go, before the boss walks behind me again ;-)

      I don’t. :)

I turfed my cable subscription years ago. I asked for cable a’la cart and I got cable a’la take-it-or-leave-it. So I left it. Everything I want and need is available online somewhere… if it’s not, I’ve often found that it wasn’t worth my time anyway. If it was, somebody somewhere would have wanted to share it with others. Not that it helps decrease the amount of TV I watch…

Friday’s are great this summer. BSG, SG-1, SG-A, and Monk. I start them running Friday night and they’re done and waiting for me when I wake on Saturday. I just have to watch my bandwidth… It’s too easy to get carried away.

      • Reviews

Ok, I think we have reviews set up. The eps that have already aired will likely go reviewless, but we should have someone posting, beginning with this week’s ep.

Stay tuned. Also, note that Lucy Lawless guest-stars, September 9.

Well, I wasn’t offering, but I do still have those eps if people are interested in reviews for the episodes 1-6.

Let me know, I’ll do my best.

I don’t use Bittorrent for anything. I’ve managed to
resist all temptations on that front. I can always
convince myself to wait for the DVDs, or to go watch some
unwatched DVD instead. (My unwatched list is way, way too
long. Entire seasons of things are still in cellophane. I
tend to buy more when work gets busy, feeling as though
I’ll get to it, and then never find the time when work
      slows down.)

  3. Humanoid Cylons
    Some minor spoilage:

Here’s a thought that has been rattling around in my head. Back in Season 1, we saw both Leobens display significantly augmented strenth as well as increased durability, as did 6 in her fight with Starbuck. Speaking only for myself, I’ve wondered why Boomer has never used that strength, especially during the Cylon Ambush on Caprica.

The solution came to me when I thought about Leoben snapping his handcuffs. Obviously human muscules aren’t strong enough to do that, but neither are skin or bone. In order to withstand that kind of abuse, both tissues would have to be significanly more durable than human tissues, and therefore, distinguishable.

Little tidbit: controled stress on a body’s muscular-skeletal system causes damage. When you work out, you are actually creating thousands of tiny "tears" in your muscules. Muscules get stronger because the body not only reparis the damage, but reinforces the tissue, ergo making the muscule stronger. The same goes for bone. Martial artists who break bricks and such train by inflicting micro-fractures on the knuckles. The scar tissue is denser, and harder.

My guess is that this superhuman activity isn’t something that can be sustained. The damage such activity wreaks upon the body is beyond their ability to repair. For Leoben and 6, this wasn’t an issue. Leoben fully expected to die soon, and 6 knew there was another body waiting. Boomer, on the other hand, does not have that luxury. Plus the baby might affecting her systems.

  4. I just wish…
I just wish there was some mechanism for me to pay the producers for my viewing of their production. If I decide to not wait for some obsolete corporate dinosaur to deign to add what I want to see into their commercials, I have no way at the moment to compensate those who created the content. This is what has kept me so far from availing myself of downloadables. I fear not much longer.

There is, albeit not immeadiately: Buy the DVD box set when it comes out. This gets you the instant gratification of keeping up with the latest episodes, while making sure the producers (in the general sense, not the “industry” sense) get their fair share.

  5. .
I like the discussion threads but the reviews would be greatly appreciated. The B42 readership have good insights into the show which I enjoy reading :). Have you been to the IMDB threads? Terrible.

The bulliten board on SciFi’s website I would bet is even worse. Everytime I’m tempted to look at it I just end up leaving shaking my head. There’s some really off the wall stuff there and a bunch that doesn’t make any sense. B42 is a far more preferable place to discuss Galactica at.

      • Re: .

This site has a remarkable absence of trolls, morons with a grudge, and doofuses (doofi?) who post things like “ur ghey if you like this it sux!!!”

And we should have reviews of BS starting up soon, by Eldhrin.
