Weekly DVD Picks – Tuesday, September 6, 2005

I’ll be out of town next weekend, so this is going up
a week early. It’s a much better list than the August
30 list, anyway.

First, the genre releases:

Now, the non-genre releases:

Finally, the pick of the week. The list of good stuff
this week is
huge, but I’ll have to go with The
Sting
: This
is a movie that truly deserved its Best Picture Oscar.
It’s a great
comedy and buddy picture. It’s set in the past, so it
ages fairly
well (though the lighting in the production drives me
nuts; the lights
cast shadows in the hotel scene, for starters).
Amusing Redford and
Newman interactions, too, with some rather quotable
lines. (“I
already know how to drink.”) If you haven’t seen it,
do.
