Sorry this is late. I was out of town last week, and
when I got home last night I realized that my entire
Bureau 42 directory was somehow neglected when backing
things up on the desktop computer in my switch from
Fedora to Kubuntu. (It’s all on the laptop, so it’ll
get rescued.) At any rate, this week looks a little
sparse, but that’s going to pick up dramatically by
the last week of October.
First, the genre releases:
- Blood,
Guts
and Vampires 6 Pack: Guaranteed to be genre. I
can’t find a list
of the titles included, though. - Escaflowne:
The Movie (Ultimate Edition): This is a three
disc set. - Hitch
Hiker’s
Guide to the Galaxy: This had mixed, but
generally negative
reviews. - Scream
Queen 3
pack: From the same people as the aforementioned
Blood, Guts
and Vampires pack. - Terror /
Wasp
Woman: A cheap double feature of two famously bad
movies.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Apocalyptica
Live: This group of cellists is fantastic. If you
haven’t heard of
them, you should know that they cover everything from
Metallica to
Grieg, in addition to writing their own stuff. Highly
recommended. - Ben-Hur:
Four
Disk Collection: This is one of those very deluxe
packages of a
classic movie that I still haven’t seen. - Black
Adder:
The Complete Collection: A five DVD set that
includes one title
not available with the original release of the set.
(That is
Black Adder: Back and Forth, which I’m told
wasn’t that
impressive anyway.) - Cheers:
Season
Six: This is the year that introduced Rebecca
Howe. - Coal
Miner’s
Daughter – 25th anniversary edition: A respected
movie. - Film
Movement
Shorts Compilation: I can’t figure out which
shorts would be on
this set.
Finally, the pick of the week. Smallville:
Season
Four includes the year of witches and rocks. It
also continues
the Warner Bros. “50th anniversary” television
celebration, and
includes an episode of The Flash as well.
Black Adder: Back and Forth
My Black Adder collection (which I believe is the original release on DVD)
includes this and the Black Adder Christmas Special too. They’re OK, But I still
prefer Black Adder II & III the most.
Re: Black Adder: Back and Forth
If that’s on there, then this must be the third release.
The first Complete Blackadder DVD collection was
out in 1999, before the Millenium special was even filmed.
If there’s already a collection with it, they must have
repressed it since 1998 already, which is hardly
surprising. (The first set I saw was also 4 DVDs, and this
is 5.)
nitpicking
Why don’t you keep the pick of the week in the rest of the list, instead of listing it seperatly?
Just because you like it more don’t mean you should keep it out of the list. On top of the list, perhaps, but not out…
Man, I’m really critical today : )
Re: nitpicking
I don’t think this is nitpicking at all. I really like the weekly DVD picks, but there have been too many times when I’ve missed the pick of the week because it’s not in the main lists—I have to remind myself to look for it every week. I know it sounds stupid, but that’s my reality.
So I’d like to add my vote to put the pick of the week in two places, the list and the pick of the week writeup.
Re: nitpicking
That seems easy enough to do. I should be able to do that from now on. Heck, most of the time I fill out both lists, and then cut and paste something from the list to the last paragraph, deleting the “list item” tags, so this should be be even easier to write.
Blackadder?
I’m pretty sure I already have this since a few months ago. Has Back&Forth on it, too…
I’d have actually preferred to just get Seasons 2 and 3, but hey.
I’m still contemplating getting HHGTTG, but probably won’t. Wasn’t that good. I am currently (re-)reading “Last Chance to See”. I wish they made THAT into a movie!
Re: Blackadder?
I’m hoping to get HHGTTG as a gift, but I don’t plan on spending my own money on it… not until the price drop at least.
As for “last chance”, they made it into a TV show… sorta. Small music-video thingies that showed images of one species over a thematically relevant song (like “don’t fear the reaper” for vultures) with a bit of narration. 2-3 minuttes per species, I didn’t even know they had anything to do with Adams at first : )
Re: Blackadder?
I’ve got this too (also with the Back & Forth and Christmas Special – looking at the back it has a 2001 on it, so it was reprinted then with that disc). I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by both the first and forth seasons.
