Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “While I’m not in any way remotely fond of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I don’t hate it enough that I’d refuse to buy the Indiana Jones collection because of its presence (I hate Fist of Fear, Touch of Death far more than that). Consequently, if you’ve got a 4K player, I’d recommend picking up either the Indiana Jones 4-movie collection or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Otherwise, I very much like Fruits Basket – so if you haven’t picked that season up already, this is a decent release to get.” Blaine says, “I think that Indiana Jones is the best bet if you have 4K technology. If not, Doctor Who: Logopolis was a good story.”
Logopolis definitely ranks among the Doctor’s more interesting adventures, and the American Experience doc about Baum and Oz is worth viewing, at least.
Reptilicus may work best on MST3K, but it’s good to be reminded that even Denmark had its own daikaiju. (Stort mærkeligt væsen?)
I do agree that Logopolis is good – I have the 4th Doctor Regeneration set, and think I like it a little better in context with that, instead of in isolation.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was a defining movie from my childhood. I went to see it because another kid in the neighbourhood told me and a friend that not only does the protagonist use a computer, but he has the same mouse as my he had, and we were like, “wow, a computer in a movie!”
And that movie still pretty much holds up.
And yes I logged in from a private session to post this.
Ferris Bueller not only holds up, I referenced it in my homework for grad school on Saturday. (I’m getting another education certification, and the selection we had to read by John Dewey had an entire paragraph about why we shouldn’t base our education philosophy on ‘isms.)
